This NPC will attack you quickly if you don’t act carefully, leading to Henry having to kill the man. With Konrad’s death, a hidden plot is kept secret, allowing murderers to go free as you try to progress through the main story.

Performing good actions can help increase Henry’s reputation in KC: Deliverance 2, so saving Konrad the Hermit can help improve how people feel about him. A better reputation leads to better vendor prices, access to more quests, and various other benefits. You can start looking for Konrad after speaking to Blacksmith Radovan, who needs to forge a sword from Damascus Steel owned by the Hermit.

How To Stop Konrad From Attacking You

Talk Down An Angry Former Knight

When you start “The Hermit” side quest after speaking to Radovan, you’ll get a quest marker on your map leading you to where Konrad the Hermit lives. Konrad’s home is located in the Apollonia region, to the west of a Well point of interest in the same area. You can find a black horse at the Abandoned Camp location in Apollonia to narrow down where the Hermit’s house is within the wilderness.

Before you head off to find Konrad, speak to Innkepper Bara to learn more about the Hermit, as this will unlock crucial dialogue options later. Those with a higher Speech skill in KC: Deliverance 2 will have an easier time finding this information.

At first, meeting Konrad at his home is a pleasant enough exchange, with the NPC revealing that they are not a Hermit after all. According to Konrad, his friend Ambrose was the one who lived in the hut you stumbled upon during the quest. Konrad is a member of the Knights of the Cross who knows the location of Ambrose’s sword, which is made of the Damascus Steel that Radovan needs.

Konrad asks you to deliver a message in exchange for the sword’s location, so do this before returning to Ambrose’s Camp. At this point, several other Knights of the Cross have gathered, claiming that Konrad is a traitor and murderer. If you try to approach Konrad after delivering his message, he will attack you right away, believing you are helping the other Knights trying to kill him.

The only way to stop Konrad from attacking you is to slowly approach the Hermit and don’t move when he starts speaking. Any sudden movements during the conversation will cause Konrad to strike, leading to his death at your hands. To side with the Hermit and save his life, simply listen to everything he has to say, follow his commands, and reassure him that you are not his enemy.

Defeat The Knights Trying To Frame Konrad

By staying put, you can select the “Look” and “Try To Get Answers” dialogue options with Konrad when talking him down. Approach Konrad after he lowers his crossbow to initiate a proper conversation, where you can agree to help the Hermit’s friend drive off the Knights of the Cross who’ve come to kill him.

You have to agree to help the Knights of the Cross kill Konrad before going to his Camp. This can be a lie if you’re trying to save the Hermit, but being “convinced” to help them deal with Konrad is the only way you can reach him to get on his side.

Defeat the Knights of the Cross with Konrad to save him, then speak with him after the battle has ended. This can be difficult, as there are multiple Knights to beat while you are also trying to keep Konrad alive. Should Konrad die in this fight, your reputation will stay untarnished, but you’ll lose out on additional rewards gained from Konrad as thanks.

How To Get The Sword

Hear Konrad’s Story And Visit Ambrose’s Grave

Surviving this combat encounter in KC: Deliverance 2 reveals that there was a plot to murder the Archbishop, which Konrad found out about. Through this discovery, he was pursued by the Knights, fleeing to Ambrose to gain an ally through his friend. Unfortunately, Ambrose died soon after Konrad arrived at his home, causing Konrad to take up the identity of the Hermit in the region.

Helping Konrad will reward you with 85 Groschen and the location of Ambrose’s grave, which has the Damascus Sword you’ve been looking for. Another quest marker will show you exactly where the grave can be found in a meadow at the top of a nearby hill. Here, you can pick up the broken half of Ambrose’s sword and travel back to Radovan to complete “The Hermit” quest.

Finishing the quest will help you forge a Toldeo Steel Sword, a strong weapon you can repair and use at any time. The tale of friendship and betrayal surrounding this blade carries a much stronger glimmer of hope if you gain it while saving Konrad the Hermit in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 from the Knights pursuing him.
