God of War: Ragnarok marked the end of the franchise’s Norse mythology era. A new report now suggests a brand-new setting, as the next God of War game reportedly explores the Egyptian mythology.
According to a job listing, Sony is hiring Middle-Eastern actors for its next AAA project which has been slated as the next God of War game.
Why it matters: Santa Monica originally considered it an Egyptian setting, when the franchise was revived in 2018. So, this isn’t the first time we have heard about the move to the Middle East.
DanielRPK shared on Patreon that Sony is searching for Middle-Eastern actors, possibly hinting at a God of War game set in Egypt. This would also make sense considering it starts a new era for the franchise.

The earlier games explored Greek mythology, which was then shifted to Norse, and now it’ll head into another new direction. The report doesn’t reveal any further details whether Kratos and Atreus will return, or anything else regarding the plot.
Nevertheless, take this news with a grain of salt as neither Sony nor Santa Monica has confirmed anything. However, Sony recently canceled a God of War live service project, so a new mainline game does make sense next.
