“Make Games Great Again”: Elon Musk Declares War on Gaming, Plans Industry Takeover with His New AI Video Game Studio

Elon Musk

Elon Musk has once again confirmed plans to launch his own AI game studio under XAI, doubling down on his mission to combat the “woke mind virus” infecting the modern gaming industry.

Responding to a post on X that claimed XAI is starting moving forward with its AI game studio, Musk simply replied, “Yes,” reaffirming his commitment to changing the gaming landscape.

Musk, who has long voiced his frustration with the industry’s shift toward identity politics and virtue signaling, first announced these plans back in November 2024. As a passionate gamer himself, Musk has frequently criticized the inclusion of agenda-driven content in modern AAA games. From pronoun selection options to forced diversity narratives, Musk has been a vocal opponent of what he sees as ideological capture in gaming.

His criticisms are not unfounded. The gaming industry has seen a wave of backlash from players tired of culturally divisive content being pushed into their favorite titles. Games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice LeagueDragon Age: The VeilguardConcordDustborn, and Star Wars: Outlaws have all faced harsh criticism and disappointing rollouts, leading many gamers to demand change.

When Dogecoin creator Billy Markus questioned how the gaming world became so ideologically compromised, Musk responded, “Too many game studios that are owned by massive corporations. @XAI is going to start an AI game studio to make games great again!”

The potential impact of an Elon Musk-backed game studio cannot be overstated. Much like his revolutionary ventures with Tesla, SpaceX, and his transformation of Twitter into X, Musk could bring a fresh perspective to gaming. Leveraging AI technology, Musk’s studio might produce high-quality games at a faster rate than bloated AAA companies, which often take upwards of five to ten years to release a single title. This could mark a substantial leap forward in AI adoption within the gaming industry, potentially triggering an industry-wide shift.

Critics have quickly pushed back against Musk’s AI game studio announcement since that initial statement, voicing concerns that the use of AI in game development could put countless artists, writers, and developers out of work. Many in the gaming industry fear that Musk’s drive for efficiency and cost-cutting through automation might come at the expense of human creativity, leading to homogenized, soulless games. Developers have taken to social media to warn that replacing skilled professionals with AI could harm the industry in the long run, stripping away the passion and unique artistry that make games memorable.

However, not all industry professionals are against this. Former World of Warcraft team lead Mark Kern, also known as Grummz, praised Musk’s announcement, highlighting the unsustainable nature of AAA game development. Kern pointed out that AA studios with $40-$70 million budgets have been outperforming AAA behemoths with budgets ranging from $300 million to $1 billion. These smaller studios are delivering better returns and occupying top sales slots, while AAA studios, bogged down by inefficiency and corporate bloat, struggle to keep up.

Musk’s venture into gaming has sparked excitement, speculation, and some trepidation across the industry. While he has yet to provide further details, the mere confirmation of XAI’s involvement in game development has already sent ripples, both positive and negative, through the gaming community.
