One Piece fans go wild as Luffy takes over Mr. Fantastic in Marvel Rivals with a special mod.
Marvel Rivals launched on December 6, 2024, with 33 playable heroes and had huge success with over 20 million downloads on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Epic Games Store.
Mr. Fantastic’s addition to Marvel Rivals has sparked excitement across the globe, adding another thrilling hero to the roster. Though Reed Richards is one of the smartest minds in the Marvel universe, he’s no stranger to getting physical.

Still, many were surprised to see him join Marvel Rivals as a Duelist. Mr Fantastic stands out as a unique character, defying traditional roles like damage dealer, tank, or support.
Instead, he serves as a versatile hybrid, adapting to any role depending on the needs of the match.
After seeing Mr Fantastic in action, Luffy fans immediately noticed the similarities between the two. Obviously, Mr Fantastic is not based on Luffy, but his newest form seems to be inspired by the main lead of One Piece.

Luffy might be the most popular anime character that can turn his body into rubber, but he’s far from the only fictional characters that have the ability to stretch their limbs and transform their hands into battering rams.
Reed hasn’t consumed a Devil Fruit, but it’s hard for fans of both Marvel and anime not to notice how strikingly similar he is to Luffy, especially in Marvel Rivals.
Fans of One Piece are replacing Mr Fantastic with Luffy in Marvel Rivals via mods, living their dream in a Gear 5 Luffy. The rise in popularity that the game received from this fan-favorite mod has been extremely phenomenal, especially within the anime group.

Called Luffy Gear 5 on Mr Fantastic, the mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods. Using mods in Marvel Rivals is restricted with the Season 1 update as it violates the terms of use.
While there haven’t been many reports of players being banned for cosmetic mods like this, it’s still important for players to be cautious

Unlike Luffy, whose body behaves like rubber, Mr Fantastic has no limits to how he can morph, stretch, inflate, and reshape his form.
This disturbing suppleness often pops up in comic books with the stretchy scientist, his fans noted he twists and stretches his body to form really scarily shaped forms. The striking resemblance between Luffy and Mr Fantastic in Marvel Rivals is hard to ignore, especially if you’re familiar with both characters.

In Marvel Rivals, Mr. Fantastic can stretch and spread his body wide, very much like what Monkey D. Luffy of Gear 4th does wherein he swells up inside in order to become bigger, stretching his body to the shape of a huge balloon made of rubber.
NetEase Games, being the Chinese developer of Marvel Rivals, probably took inspiration from Luffy’s rubber powers as an indirect nod to the anime and manga community.

In addition to stretching his limbs, Mr Fantastic pulls off moves that resemble Luffy’s, like enhancing his muscles and deflecting projectiles back at opponents. It’s no surprise that fans are having a blast comparing the two iconic characters on social media in some hilarious ways.
