After going down as a consequence of the short-lived TikTok ban in the U.S., Marvel Snap has now resumed service – and, to avoid a repeat of the incident, the game’s developers are now looking for a new publisher. Launched in 2022, Marvel Snap quickly became one of the more popular online games in the TCG space, developed by the studio Second Dinner and published by Nuverse. The game’s publisher, which has ties to TikTok owner Bytedance, caused the game to be banned alongside TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps, like video editing app CapCut.

Fortunately, as posted by @seconddinner on X, Marvel Snap is now back online in the U.S. – and, to prevent a repeat incident, Second Dinner is now “working to bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher“, promising to “update with more information as soon as possible“. The exact specifics of how Second Dinner is navigating the publisher situation are unknown, and, likely, players won’t hear much more about it until the studio has actually struck a deal.

After A Short Ban, Marvel Snap Is Back

Fortunately, Marvel Snap is back online in the U.S. after a brief ban, but the game still has some ongoing issues that are yet to be resolved. Notably, Snap currently has yet to reappear in any online storefronts like the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, which will prevent users from installing updates, and the game’s in-app purchases are unavailable. For players who want to make purchases, the only currently available option is the online web storefront.

Developer Second Dinner has acknowledged the ongoing issues on X, promising a resolution soon, but for the time being, Snap is still feeling the consequences of the ban, and there will likely be at least a small delay before the game’s full functionality is restored. In the meantime, however, existing players can continue to play the game mostly as normal, and the developers are taking steps to ensure that it doesn’t go down again.

The Devs Are Looking For A New Publisher So This Doesn’t Happen Again

It’s a surprising move for a developer to publicly announce that they’re looking for a new publisher, but an understandable one, as Marvel Snap getting caught up in the TikTok ban was a surprise even to Second Dinner, as per this X post. The announcement has caused speculation that Second Dinner may curb Snap‘s monetization, which some players see as excessive and attribute to Nuverse, but no official announcements along those lines have been made, and only time will tell if a publisher change leads to a significant shift in how Snap operates.

For now, Snap is back up and playable in the U.S., and the developers are working on restoring full functionality, getting the games back up on digital storefronts, and looking for a new publisher so that the game doesn’t get caught up in a similar situation in the future. Hopefully, as Marvel Snap continues to receive new content, a new publisher will keep the game from undergoing any unplanned outages.
