Marvel’s New Deadpool Twists Batman’s Morals With a Very Specific ‘No Kill’ Rule

Ryan Reynolds Deadpool next to Batman 66 Adam West and Burt WardBatman doesn’t kill – but Deadpool definitely does. The Merc with a Mouth has no trouble playing towards the darker side, while always keeping his comics light enough by cracking a joke or referencing a new trend in pop culture. But since Deadpool’s daughter has taken the mantle, she’s had to live by her dad’s new rule: no killing. She’s already found a creative loophole, however.

Deadpool is officially dead in Marvel Comics. His daughter, Ellie Camacho, who has the same healing factor and has been training to hone some of his same skills, has officially taken on the title of Deadpool and is following in his footsteps while chasing after her father’s killer. In Deadpool #8 by Cody Ziglar, Alexis Quasarano, Rogê Antônio, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino, Deadpool faces a villain with red lightsabers for arms named Laser Fist.

While Ellie previously agreed to follow her father’s last wish, she makes a last minute amendment, deciding that Laser Fist is more machine than human – so she must not count when killed.

If Deadpool’s not cracking jokes that break the fourth wall, then he’s probably busy killing. He’s no Batman, and he’s even killed the Marvel Universe in one story. No comic fan expected Deadpool to take the no-killing rule seriously, but he did put it in place to protect his daughter from repeating his same traumatic life. Only time will tell if Ellie, as the newest Deadpool, will end up becoming like her father or like Batman instead.

Being Deadpool means cutting corners and leaning into being an anti-hero at times.

But it seems that the life of Batman was never in the cards. Being Deadpool means cutting corners and leaning into being a killer anti-hero at times. At the end of the day, Deadpool is a mercenary, and his newest no-killing rule just doesn’t quite fit with his character. Ellie is starting to find out the limits of this rule, and she just might live up to being as creative as her dad in her quest to avenge his death.

Deadpool’s Daughter Honors Wade Wilson with Fun Loopholes to His Own Rules

Batman Would Never Accept Deadpool’s Killing

While Ellie might still be new to the Deadpool mantle, in this loophole to the no-killing rule, she shows a shrewdness that cannot be taught. In the heat of battle, she thinks quickly on her feet, and this improvisation helps her turn the battle in her favor. Batman would definitely excommunicate her from the Bat-Family for this rule-breaking, as he is a hero that cuts no corner, but thankfully, she’s a part of the Deadpool family – which is much more fun anyway.

Ellie also breaks the no-kill rule in the most Deadpool way: a way that’s fun and smart and hilarious for fans. Ellie Camacho is living up to her father’s legacy as the newest Deadpool. Whether she will follow along his same line of mercenary behavior and end up on a universal killing streak in the near future remains to be seen. For now, Deadpool is a fan of loopholes instead and will do what needs to be done – if only in a roundabout way.
