BioWare’s General Manager has just updated fans on the production of the next Mass Effect game, and folks aren’t too happy with their progress.

In a post on the official BioWare blog, Gary McKay revealed that, following the poor sales of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, members of the BioWare team are being moved to “other teams at EA” while work on Mass Effect 5 begins.

“In keeping with our fierce commitment to innovating during the development and delivery of Mass Effect, we have challenged ourselves to think deeply about delivering the best experience to our fans,” McKay announced, “We are taking this opportunity between full development cycles to reimagine how we work at BioWare.”

“Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio. We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit.”

Over on the r/masseffect subreddit, fans weren’t too happy to hear about the lack of progress that BioWare has made.

“See everybody in 2028/9,” commented user St_Sides, “Crazy to think we got the entire ME trilogy in one console generation, got Andromeda the next, and now we’re going an entire generation without a Mass Effect game.”

“A triple A game doesn’t require a full studio? Oh man, I’ve been trying to keep an open mind about the next Mass Effect, but recent events have been making it hard to have confidence in it,” replied user Markinoutman.

Personally, given EA’s recent comments about how Dragon Age: The Veilguard might have sold better if it was a live-service title, I don’t have high hopes for the next Mass Effect.

But that’s not BioWare’s fault, that is, as always, EA’s fault.
