Carl Lumbly’s Black Captain America demands an apology from Sebastian Stan’s Bucky for their encounter in South Korea.

Carl Lumbly’s Black Captain America was first introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes discover more truth about the Super Soldier serum and how it was used to create an army of Black Super Soldiers. Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley was the last living Black Super Soldier who spent years in jail and in hiding, so as to hide the U.S.’s secret experiments on Black soldiers.

In the conversation that Bradley has with Wilson, he reveals that he had encountered Bucky once and failed to kill him. It was this event that brought several repercussions for him. Lumbly returns to his role in Captain America: Brave New World. He shared in a recent interview that he would like his character to encounter Bucky once more.

In the final scenes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson makes sure that the heroics of Carl Lumbly‘s Isaiah Bradley are announced to the whole world. The character returns in the new film, Captain America: Brave New World, where he receives an invitation to the White House by President Thaddeus Ross.
Fans have seen from the trailer that Bradley gets mind-controlled during the event and shoots at the President. While that story is unveiled in the movie, Lumbly has expressed his interest to pursue another story involving Bradley and Bucky Barnes. Speaking to Phase Hero, Lumbly shared that he would like Bradley to continue his conversation with Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky.
Bradley was sent by the U.S. military to eliminate the Winter Soldier in South Korea, which he failed and eventually got him shunned. While fans didn’t know what exactly transpired in South Korea between the two Super Soldiers, Lumbly shared that his character needed an apology from Bucky. He told Phase Hero (via @PhaseHero/X):
I would like to continue the conversation with Bucky because there’s an opportunity for us. I don’t understand why I never got an apology.
Unfortunately, Lumbly’s desire to meet with Bucky Barnes will likely not happen anytime soon. After The Falcon and the Winter Soldiers, Marvel’s favorite duo Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan were given their own movie projects. While Mackie headlined Brave New World, Stan is all set to hit theaters this year with his MCU film, Thunderbolts*.
Carl Lumbly played TV’s first Black superhero three decades ago

Before Isaiah Bradley, Carl Lumbly made history with his role in the 1994 Fox drama, M.A.N.T.I.S. In the series, Lumbly’s central character Dr. Miles Hawkins, a brilliant biophysicist, has an alter ego of a crime fighter. The paralyzed doctor developed an exoskeleton that helps him to leave his wheelchair and fight crimes.
Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was one of the brains behind the series. Unfortunately, the series was marred in controversy during its single-season run on television. After the pilot aired, co-creators Raimi and Sam Hamm along with four Black supporting actors were let go from the series before its premiere (via LA Times).
The producers were accused of racism after two Black cast members shared that the series changed its tone radically to attract more white viewers. However, Lumbly shared that people still recognized him from M.A.N.T.I.S. He told the LA Times:
Since I’ve been in the MCU, a lot of people come up and tell me how proud they are. And then there are a lot of people who remember ‘M.A.N.T.I.S.’
Carl Lumbly’s other prominent roles include Alias, The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep, and Cagney & Lacey. Fans loved his role in both the TFATWS series and the Captain America film and they would love to see him back in more projects in the MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World is now running in theaters.
