The most pivotal decision you’ll ever make in Monster Hunter Wilds happens in the first 10 minutes. Do you choose to let your Palico speak with words or meow like a cat? Of course there is only one right answer, and it’s to not let your furry little friend say a single word but “meow meow meow.”

In Monster Hunter Wilds’ world, it’s called Felyne language, and changing this setting while creating your Palico will affect every other one you meet. That’s why you should have Felyne language toggled to on. You can listen to what they sound like by hovering over the voice option below it and using the preview voice button. While you’re there, compare them and see what I mean. Palicoes should never say “Let’s do this!” in human words.

According to Monster Hunter lore, Palicoes have always been able to speak in human languages, but limited voice acting in the older games saved us from having to hear it. Monster Hunter World skyrocketed the series’ popularity in the West and brought us Wilds, a big, ambitious entry with full voice acting. We can appreciate the effort put into finally depicting Palicoes as they really are, but we also feel like it’s the worst thing to ever happen to them.
