There are all kinds of ideas and layered looks you can go for, from classical armor from the series’ history to cosplay from anime, other games, and fantastical films. Hunt in the Forbidden Lands with style in some of the best monster-made suits you can find.
Van Helsing

Take on the world of monsters as the famed hunter of Gothic Horror himself, Van Helsing. The Hope set works with the aesthetic of Van Helsing’s outfit film. If you pre-ordered Monster Hunter Wilds, the Guild Knight’s hat is a great look for his hat. Quematrice’s male head armor is a good alternative if you don’t have this layered set.
Weapons to play around with while you’re using this set are the Dual Blades and the Light Bowgun, both of which emulate the fighting methods of Van Helsing in his film. This choice is based on the spinning attacks of his blades and the crossbow weapon Van Helsing used against vampires in the film.
Dark Lord

Embrace the power of an evil overlord with this combination. Dominantly done with Gore Magala’s armor, you can also shift the helmet with either Rey Dau or, in this case, Jin Dahaad helmet to complete the mysterious overlord look. The vambraces and greaves can be a mix of draconic-looking armors as well, like Rey Dau and Magala armors.
Great Swords and Long Swords are great weapons to have in combination with this layered combo. It’s great for posing, hunter profile images, and it makes a great look when you’re matched up against monsters like Magala and Arkveld, which match the idea of fighting evil phantoms.
Dragoon

In most fantasy fiction stories, dragoons are a type of knight who are aesthetically armored to appear like dragons or wyverns. Dragon armor tends to work with this look, and in Monster Hunter Wilds, Rey Dau’s armor set combined with an Arkveld helmet makes for a great set of Dragoon-looking armor to match the dragoon look.
The perfect weapon to go with the dragoon set is the Insect Glaive. Any scale-plated kinsect can also fit the look as well. This layered combo and the weapon choice is inspired by the special collaboration Dragoon armor you gain as a reward for defeating Behemoth in Monster Hunter World.
Julius the Ace Commander

Dood Quinn has made a near-perfect construction of the armored outfit worn by Julius, the Ace Commander who played a significant role in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate as the leader of the Ace Hunters and Aiden’s (Ace Cadet/Excitable A-Lister) mentor.
His weapon of choice from Monster Hunter 4 is the Guild Knight Sabers, which you can forge in the smithy. There are plenty of good hair choices in character customization that can also match Julius’s hair design and color.
Viking Wanderer

Arveld’s Mail is perfect for dressing up your hunter to be a fierce viking warrior. The whole armor set does, really. But if you want to make some interesting mixes that reflect the nature of Vikings and Nordic barbarians from fantasy stories like Conan the Cimmerian.
Weapons that can go with your Viking setup include great swords, hammers, and charge blades that have that ferocious warrior aesthetic. You can even make this set work for a Thor look with the Arkveld hammer and its similarity to Mjolnir.
Goblin Slayer

Dood Quinn has done a great job creating the look of the infamous Goblin Slayer, the hero from the dark fantasy anime. Both the color pigments of the armor and the Quematrice helmet, combined with the Battle Mail armor, work well in recreating Goblin Slayer’s iconic helmet and armor look.
To go with this layered set, wielding the sword and shield makes for the best weapons to go with this layered combo. Several of these that would work the best include the Ore Tree sword and shield, the Balahara tree, and the Gravios sword and shield. These three weapons fit what Goblin Slayer would use on his adventurers.
Obsidian Knight

Dark-colored weapons, such as the paralytic great sword (which is made from Barina parts), are a great weapon to go with this set. Gore Magala’s weapons also have the aesthetic ideal to go with this dark knight look.
Hunter of Yharnam

Carrot Maul also made this great set that makes your hunter appear like a Hunter from Yharnam, the setting of Bloodborne. The unique designs of the Hope set and the helmet of Lala Barina work together to create a Victorian/Gothic hero aesthetic that’s prevalent in all the hunter gear from the Bloodborne series.
The hunters of Yharnam are also known for their unique tools in the hunt. These are known as Trick Weapons, which can transform into two different forms that offer different ways to attack. In Monster Hunter Wilds, the switch axes and charge blades work the closest to these Trick Weapons, so using them as a part of your Yharnam layered set makes for the best recreation of a Bloodborne hunter.
