This builds passion for the franchise’s diverse audience. The fact that modern gamers can also play as Ghostface in MK says it all. It’s a smart business approach in an era of monetization. With enhanced narratives using these figures, MK can only grow as a brand as this is essentially cross-promotion that brings in another target market. Interestingly, the Khaos Reigns sequel does something its predecessors didn’t do: open an avenue for a former DLC player to return. This is none other than the Predator.
What Was the Predator’s Role in Mortal Kombat?
The Yautja Wants to Hunt Mortal Kombat’s Best Warriors
The Predator debuted in MKX. This 2015 game, admittedly, didn’t dive into incursions and the Multiverse the way the reboot is doing. It just capitalized on popular Hollywood characters, bringing in Jason Vorhees and Alien, too. The Predator (or Yautja, as diehards call the beings) had the same mission as the movies: hunt for sport, kill for honor, test itself and build a legacy off these challenges. It created a flurry of dynamic fights and fluid battles, capped by some of the game’s most harrowing Fatalities and Brutalities. In essence, the Predator became one of MK’s strongest characters. In the individual ending, the Predator even started using magic. Via this sorcery, it turned into the Apex Predator, fully aware it had to transcend, evolve and dominate to survive this reality. That was a remarkable glow-up.
Predators usually employ blades, bombs, blasters and invisibility. They come off advanced, but still a tad primitive. However, in the MK realm, the hunter turned into an alpha like never before. Coincidentally, the stage is set to come back to a more dangerous hunting ground after what the Khaos Reigns expansion pack details.
The Predator Has an Opening To Come Into Liu Kang’s New World
The Predator Can Use Portals at Ying Valley
Firstly, the incursions by these mainstream, external characters can be perfectly explained by the fraying Multiverse — this is what the Invasions Mode is about. Liu Kang’s attempts as the Fire God to rebuild all realities have failed. Portals (such as in Ying Valley) are opening up and invasions are occurring. This sets the stage for the mystical Predator to come over. It doesn’t need a tribe either. According to whatever magic it took, it is a clan upon itself. The Predator Details

The Khaos Reigns story brought in Shinnok’s amulet and the Kamidogu daggers, so if the MKX Predator got its hands on those, it could become a demigod hunter. Homelander and even the MK version of Omni-Man love how deadly this world is. They can cut loose. The thing is, they want super-warriors on equal pegging. The Predator could be just that. An agent of chaos who loves the new gladiators in this arena, so to speak.
Such a powerful Predator could even work with General Shao, Reiko and their pet, Onaga (the Dragon King), in terms of “konquest.” It would be a waste not to exploit this and give the Predator the stomping grounds it always clamored for. This realm suits its basic desires, its very nature and overall instincts. It can murder, ascend the food chain, and then show the Yautja seniors it was the Chosen One from their stories.
The Predator Could Feud With Cyrax
The Yautja Could Be Targeted by Sektor As Well
Should MK co-creator, Ed Boon, decide to be unconventional and bring the Predator back, there are built-in enemies waiting. They fit the Predator’s hunting aesthetic, the war machine it becomes, and its fighting style. Firstly, the Predator can feud with Cyrax. She is now a key warrior in Scorpion’s Shirai Ryu. She is a general helping protect the realm — something she wanted the Lin Kuei to do when she worked under Sub-Zero/Bi-Han.
Alas, that oath was broken. It took her some time to realize Scorpion was the leader she needed. In the process, fans saw Cyrax in her yellow battle armor, racing around, flying all over the jungle, and fighting. She trained with Sektor, too, showcasing how powerful the suits are. In Cyrax’s case, she has invisibility, nets, bombs and knows how to set traps in the forest. She incorporates her technology cleverly with nature. Plus, she is now balancing how much to rely on the suit and her own power as a human after the Khaos Reigns ending.
Should Cyrax adopt more of the Shaolin way from the Shirai Ryu, or even use magic, she could become the ideal nemesis for the Yautja. Imagine a Cyrax who has integrated Scorpion’s flames and spear, teleportation, and Smoke’s combat style. She could even harness Raiden’s lightning into her blasters. She has a genius, inventive military mind, so any bit of inspiration would be utilized to shape a lethal protector.
Secondly, Sektor, herself, could use her red armor to hunt the Yautja. She has missiles, unique tracking, devious bombs and such. This would allow her to show her worth as the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. But more so, she can follow her father’s legacy of experimentation. The Lin Kuei wants weapons after going rogue. Dissecting, studying and appropriating the Yautja and the Predator tech could level up Sektor and her warriors in big ways. She possesses the same hunting skills as Cyrax. She did mentor Cyrax, so she might be better.
The Predator Can Evolve In the Khaos Reigns Follow-Up
A New Mortal Kombat Predator Could Offer Value for Money
Conversely, the Predator could turn the tables, capture either or both Sektor and Cyrax, and use their tech. It loves upgrading itself in this MK Universe. This creates a nuanced arc of MK’s best hunters colliding. It would play on military strategy and war tactics more than ever. In the end, the Predator is someone fans would pay for, as long as it has new dimensions to its game. It is a character many generations love. It would keep building these bridges between eras, honoring the past and moving towards the future.

Plus, the cut scenes, finishing movies, and potential to see an even deadlier Predator would be more than enough to warrant an extra fee. That’s what MK has to do: not just cheap cash grabs, but incentivize fans in terms of style and substance. Ultimately, the Kombat Predator would suit the current narrative and build on a foundation that was already well-received from years back. It would subvert without being a rote, derivative copy of what came before, giving gamers value for their money — a hot topic that will permeate the industry for some time.
