A Netflix series boasting a perfect 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes is available to watch on the streamer, and fans have lauded the comedy as a ‘hidden treasure’.

The Letdown stars co-creator Alison Bell as new mother Audrey, who works alongside work-stressed husband Jeremy (Duncan Fellows) to successfully raise their baby in a middle-class suburb in Sydney.

The first series premiered on the streamer in April 2018, following a release in Australia six months prior, and tracks the early days of the new mum in an oddball mothers’ group.

The following season, which aired in May 2019, skips forward to the baby as a one-year-old toddler and includes the shock revelation that Audrey had an abortion as she and Jeremy were not prepared for a second child.

Winning a string of awards in Australia, The Letdown was both critically acclaimed and well received on Netflix by international viewers.

Its perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes was achieved after fans took to the website to heap praise on its relatable content, and even compare it to the BBC classic Motherland.

One impressed viewer said: ‘This is exactly what we are experiencing! As new immigrants, we have no family in Australia and we have no idea how to connect with the community support.

‘I recommend it to everyone who wants to have a baby for getting a correct mindset and expectations about what they will experience in the future.’

Another added: ‘Amazing show… love how real it is… hope there’s a new season… watching the first one for the third time already.’

Meanwhile, one mesmerised fan took to Reddit to say: ‘The Letdown was the show I watched straight after Motherland. It was a hidden treasure on and I loved it!’

An official Motherland spin-off, titled Amandaland, hit screens in January and saw the focus shift to Amanda (Lucy Punch), the posh and often overbearing mum, as she navigated a major lifestyle change after her divorce forced her to downsize.

Moving to a new postcode, she reconnected with her former friend Anne (Philippa Dunne) and attempted to blend in with a new school crowd, including laid-back parents Della (Siobhan McSweeney) and Fi (Rochenda Sandall).

However, Amanda quickly found herself struggling to adapt to her new surroundings.

Adding to the chaos was her ever-present mother, Felicity (Joanna Lumley), who only made things more complicated.

Speaking about the series, Tanya Qureshi, Head of Comedy at the BBC said: ‘We can’t wait for audiences to see Amanda’s new chapter, brought to life by such a talented cast and a wonderfully sharp set of characters. It’s going to be a real treat.’

The show was created by Sharon Horgan, Graham Linehan, Helen Serafinowicz and Holly Walsh and also starred Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, Paul Ready and Tanya Moodie.
