New Costumes Are Coming To Two Beloved Heroes In Marvel Rivals, And Damn They Look Spectacular

Marvel Rivals is getting new skins for two of its characters this week, and fans are already eating them up. As a live-service game, skins are Marvel Rivals‘ microtransaction bread and butter. They completely alter a character’s appearance, sometimes also changing their animations, so players can have a greater degree of customization over their preset characters. What’s more, since skins are all over Marvel Rivals‘ battle pass, they serve as a way for players to show off their accomplishments along with their style.

And the catalog of available skins is set to expand soon, via the official Marvel Rivals X (formerly Twitter): on February 6, Marvel Rivals is getting new legendary skins for Captain America and Luna Snow, a Vanguard and Strategist hero respectively. Cap’s new skin is based on his appearance in the film Avengers: Infinity War. Luna’s skin, Mirae 2099, gives her a purple and pink look, complete with headphones and long, two-toned hair extensions. Both skins will be available in the in-game store beginning at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST on February 6.

These represent radically different looks for both characters, taking their designs in entirely new directions. Again, the Captain America skin is based on his costume in Infinity War, as Marvel Rivals expands its reach over the comics universe. It features a bearded, maskless Cap, wearing a simpler super suit with multiple utility belts, an armor-plated abdomen, and twin Wakandan shields. It’s unknown whether the shields will actually look different in gameplay, or whether it’s simply an aesthetic choice that’ll feature in his character portrait.

The new Luna Snow design is based on her secret identity as a K-pop idol. Mirae 2099 Luna wears a headset with a microphone, wearing a pink-and-purple ensemble made up of a high-collared jacket, paired with sporty top, shorts, and tights. The new Luna skin also features long, purple hair extensions tied into knots near the top to accentuate her similarly two-toned hairdo.

As these are both legendary skins, they’re expected to be on the pricier side. Typically, other costumes of the same tier have gone for about $25 USD when converted to real-world currency, so players may have to drop about that much for the new Captain America or Luna Snow costume.

In general, Marvel Rivals skins have received a warm welcome from fans, who appreciate the various opportunities to customize their characters. Each new costume has been unique and well designed, and says a great deal about the player. Some skins, like the Blood Shield for the Invisible Woman, have become popular as a way for players to show off their prowess. Awarded only for reaching Gold III rank, the Blood Shield skin is a badge of honor.

Other skins are simply just ways for fans to celebrate their favorite related pieces of Marvel media. New Spider-Man skins, released alongside the port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to PC, proved a hit among fans of the former PS5 exclusive. And some skins are just great ways to support a player’s favorite character, like those recently released for the ever-popular Mantis and Doctor Strange. For these reasons and more, players have taken quickly to Marvel Rivals‘ skins.
