New Dr. Strange Portal Tech Has Marvel Rivals Fans Angry, Asking For Permanent Bans

A new way to use Doctor Strange’s portals in Marvel Rivals has been discovered, but rather than targeting the enemy team, players are targeting their own team out of frustration. Doctor Strange is one of several Vanguards in Rivals, and with his ability, the “Pentagram of Farallah”, he can open a portal from one place to another.

While usually, we see portals being used to drop the enemy team to their death or to capture a point swiftly from spawn, it seems as though fans are now finding a way to throw the match using the portal.

A recent Reddit post from user zSuperMonky garnered a lot of attention, as their Dr. Strange player decides to throw the match by opening a portal to their team, so the opposition can “end the game fast.” While players do have the ability to report others for “throwing”, not many people end up getting in trouble when reported, meaning they can continue to throw matches in the same way over and over.

Marvel Rivals Players Are Sick Of Teammates Throwing In Terrible Ways

All Games Are Technically Winnable If You Try

Throwing a match, also known as griefing, can be awful to deal with, especially when players reach higher tiers in competitive play. Comments on the Reddit thread agree with this sentiment, as user Caleirin states, “I had 2 games in a row lastnight where a teammate left 2 mins into the match. A game where an enemy decided to throw despite the game going into overtime.” Opening a portal to attempt to have teammates killed by the other team “quickly” is a bit extreme, but plays like this are common in Marvel Rivals.

Every match is winnable, so long as the entire team attempts to recover. Another issue brought to light in the thread is players leaving out of anger mid-match, which, if the team with the “leaver” loses, they lose rank. Users agree that when someone decides to throw by leaving, they shouldn’t lose points due to the match being unfair. This is something NetEase has yet to address, and players are becoming increasingly frustrated with ranked play due to this issue.

Our Take: Should Dr. Strange Players Be Banned For This Behavior?

Anyone Who Throws On Purpose Should Get A Ban

As a Marvel Rivals player, I truly believe anyone who throws a match out of anger should be banned. While there are instances where surrendering is the best option, don’t throw the match just because you are losing. Using a portal to bring the enemy team to you can be a good move if you know you can win the fight, but doing it to purposely get your team killed should be a bannable offense.

Every teammate has a part to play, regardless of which hero they choose or what role they play. Everyone is attempting to climb the ranks in competitive play, and throwing to “end it quick” and move on to the next match is not fair for those trying their best. Not every match will be a win, even Galacta says you can’t win them all, but throwing in Marvel Rivals is simply unfair to your teammates, and hopefully, NetEase deals with leavers and throwers as quickly as possible.
