Steam is the go-to platform on PC. The majority of players prefer this launcher because of its being user-friendly and, of course, many other reasons. Meanwhile, Epic Games, which usually gives out free games, can’t compete with it.
Given the fandom’s preference, publishers should release their games on Steam. However, one of 2023’s best games, Alan Wake 2, wasn’t released on the platform, and it missed a lot of sales.
It wasn’t even profitable after being launched for over a year, which may have been prevented if Alan Wake 2 was launched on Steam. Now, the Epic Games CEO has confirmed that the game won’t be coming to the desired platform.
Why it matters: Steam is the dominating platform on PC, so fans prefer to buy their games here. Many fans have even requested Remedy to release Alan Wake 2 on Steam, but Epic Games funded the title, so it is understandable why it couldn’t.
Pirat_Nation on Twitter shared a screenshot of an Email to Twin Sweeney asking whether the game will be launched on Steam. He straight up said no, so there is no hope for the game to be released on the fan-favorite platform.
I am very interested in buying Alan Wake 2. But I am not a fan of the Epic Games store, so I’d rather wait for it to launch on Steam. Will this happen within the next year or two?
To this, Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, simply replied by saying, “It’s not coming to Steam.” Epic has heavily funded the game, so it makes sense why the company wouldn’t want to release it on a rival platform.
However, many users have had a terrible experience with Epic Games, as the storefront can be quite troublesome at times.
One user even shared their experience that they gave it a try a year ago with one purchase. “They charged me a payment processing fee on top that made those coupons they gave out almost worthless.”
