Modding in Space Marine 2 just got a whole lot better. We need an Adeptus Custodes mod to make Henry Cavill proud.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was one of the biggest hits of last year and the most successful Warhammer game we’ve seen to date. And it’s about to get even better in 2025. In a move that would make even Henry Cavill proud, Saber Interactive has made a change that’s going to define the future of the game going forward.

Game director Dmitry Grigorenko just confirmed that full modding support is finally coming out for the game. With the power to make changes to almost every part of the game, modders can now add the wildest stuff into the game. But first, we want the Adeptus Custodes as a playable faction.

Make no mistake, Space Marine 2’s official launch already delivered one of the most faithful Warhammer games we’ve ever seen. But it had a notably limited variety in terms of factions, just the Ultramarines, Chaos, and Tyranids. And so, despite the positive reviews and record-breaking sales, players began asking for more. More factions, more lore, more options.

And today, thanks to Saber Interactive’s own efforts, that can be made possible, in a way. Space Marine 2 director Dmitry Grigorenko has confirmed that we’ll be getting full public access to the game’s official Integration Studio. This is the very same internal toolset Saber Interactive uses to build the game, now opened to the community.

Modders and creators can now access and change everything from AI behaviors and mission logic to user interfaces and game modes. This decision effectively turns Space Marine 2 into a modern Skyrim. We’re gonna go from a co-op shooter game to a modding playground where the sky is the limit.

Grigorenko’s message to the community on the modding Discord server (via IGN) was clear and celebratory: “Not long ago, I promised we would support the modding scene, and we meant it.” He even teased us with early concept art for a comedic mini-game titled Fishing With Daddy Calgar. Obviously, he’s doing a little trolling with it, as he should. But yeah, the entire game is going to change now.

Almost immediately, there are plans to add Warhammer 40K factions like the Tau and Necrons into the game via mods. This is thanks to modder Tom from Warhammer Workshop, known for his Astartes Overhaul mod. Tom has been working on integrating new factions into the game, and this new change will make a lot of things possible

Thanks to the editor’s comprehensive access to game mechanics and animations, the addition of new factions like the Adeptus Custodes is finally within reach. And you know who’s going to be happy to see a faction in Space Marine 2? Henry Cavill.

The Warhammer super fan has admitted on multiple occasions that the Adeptus Custodes are his favorite faction, and if someone were to mod in the entire faction in the game, we could definitely see the actor return to the game to check it out.

Like Skyrim, the modding scene may be what makes Space Marine 2 last. The tools have been handed to us, and the Warhammer community is definitely one with the passion needed to do it.
