Don’t miss out on what’s being called one of the BEST Netflix shows ever. 🔥

One of Netflix’s most critically acclaimed series ever has become a global hit almost immediately after its final season premiered. Netflix’s biggest and most successful shows include titles like Stranger Things and Wednesday, setting a precedent for the type of shows that perform well on the site. Subscribers tend to gravitate toward easy-to-consume YA series like those listed above, as well as action-packed titles like The Night Agent. That makes one of the platform’s all-time top performers something of an anomaly.

Currently, the most-viewed TV shows of all time on Netflix’s charts include titles like Wednesday season 1, Stranger Things season 4, and Bridgerton season 1. There are also titles with more mature tones, like Adolescence and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Netflix’s algorithm is difficult to predict, but the shows that succeed do so on a level that’s scarcely accomplished on any other streaming service. The platform was responsible for most of the top-viewed series in early 2025, and the remainder of the year looks sure to maintain this momentum.

Squid Game season 3 is already number one globally on Netflix’s streaming charts, three days after its release (via FlixPatrol). The South Korean drama series was a cultural phenomenon surrounding its 2021 release, becoming one of the most widely recognized shows in the world and even spawning a reality TV spin-off. After years away from the series, Squid Game’s final two seasons have been released in rapid succession, with season 2 being released in December 2024, and season 3 following up just six months later.

Squid Game season 3’s instant success sees it overtaking titles like The Waterfront and Ginny & Georgia, which had previously reigned supreme on Netflix. Season 3 currently holds an 82% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences have been more divided on the title, with a 50% Popcornmeter. The split reactions don’t seem to be deterring the show’s success, however, as the massive fanbase for the show will want to know how it ends.

Our Take On Squid Game’s Streaming Success

Squid Game Is A Win For Streaming No Matter What

Regardless of whether Squid Game season 3 performs well with audiences, I strongly believe that this series as a whole is a massive win for Western television. Hollywood is in desperate need of original ideas, and the fact that a South Korean show could achieve this success with American audiences is a testament to the broader desire for new stories. Subtitles aren’t the deterrent many studios seem to think they are. If the material is interesting and enough audiences are exposed, they’ll tune in to shows like Squid Game.
