In a new interview with Nerdbunker, Mackie was asked about the prospects of leading the Avengers against Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday when the Tony Stark actor returns as a different character. While Mackie couldn’t offer any story teases, the MCU’s Captain America actor is more than thrilled to take on Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, sharing the following:
Robert Downey Jr. has had his ass-kick coming for a long time, and I’m very proud to say he [is] going to get it!
What Anthony Mackie’s RDJ Doctor Doom Comments Mean

Since Avengers: Doomsday filming begins in Spring 2025, the MCU will soon have a lot of the actors from past films taking part in The Multiverse Saga’s final installments, which will bring Downey Jr. together with cast members that he hasn’t filmed with since Avengers: Endgame. To hear Mackie being excited to share the screen again with the long-time Iron Man actor shows how much many are looking forward to his return, whether it’s the fans or the actors themselves. Considering the number of characters that exist in the MCU that could be part of Avengers: Doomsday, there will be plenty of battles for Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

While time will tell who will actually win in the showdown, it’s fun to hear that Mackie is more or less back for Avengers: Doomsday, as Marvel Studios has been limited in sharing details on which cast members will be back for the Phase 6 installment. Time will tell what other actors are being lined up to take part in the Avengers: Doomsday cast, but it will likely be a very packed group of stars that will take part in this story. Hopefully, when Avengers: Doomsday starts filming in 2025, the world will get an early glimpse of Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom debut.
