Rockstar Faces Pressure to Price GTA 6 Above $70, Say Industry Journalists

Rockstar is currently fully focused on GTA 6, as the game is set to release later this year. While there hasn’t been a second trailer yet, fans have high expectations, and the hype is touching the roof.

That said, there has been one concern going on for a while now. Many fans and analysts are thinking that Rockstar’s upcoming GTA won’t be priced at $70. Instead, it may go up to $100, which would set a precedent for others to follow.

Many developers are hoping for Rockstar to do this so they could also follow this trend and it seems like the gaming giant might just do it.

Why it matters: Rockstar doesn’t need to put the price tag of $80-100 on GTA 6 to make it profitable, as we all know it is going to break all the records in the industry at launch. However, would it say no to more money? Absolutely not.

Journalists from IGN, one of the biggest gaming media, have concluded in a podcast that Rockstar may be forced to increase the price tag for its upcoming game and its believable.

Yes, they will because they can because they are a for-profit company that answers to shareholders, and so it absolutely will happen. If they sell only 90 million copies at 100 bucks vs selling 100 million copies at 70 bucks, whatever the math works out, they make more money. That’s what they are going to do.

McCaffrey further said that there is no morality in it, there’s no emotion in it. It’s just what makes them the most money. This take does make sense, as pricing the game above $70 is surely going to bring more profit. The Upcoming GTA Will Likely Break All Records In The Gaming Industry
Rockstar is heavily invested in the upcoming GTA, so witnessing a $100 price tag for the game won’t be surprising. Despite the price tag, the game is guaranteed to sell millions of copies on launch. Fans are even willing to spend $150 for it.

Developers are also relying on Rockstar to set a precedent so they can follow suit. This could also become one of the main reasons the developer increases the price tag. Hopefully, Rockstar won’t increase the price threshold way too much, as it will turn the gaming industry upside down.
