Skeleton Crew’s Highest-Rated Episode Yet Has a Fantastic Marvel Connection, Its a Good Sign For an Upcoming MCU Film

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s latest director might bode well for another Disney property after it’s disastrous run with fans.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew seems to have escaped the notorious curse that has plagued the franchise, causing shows like The Acolyte to tank right out of the gate. Skeleton Crew has received a lot of praise for its story, which has seemingly taken the franchise out of the ditch that it is in.

The last episode of the show, and the best-rated yet, titled You Have A Lot to Learn About Pirates, bodes well for another Disney property. While Star Wars seems to be steadily healing behind the scenes, there is another brand under Disney that needs some oomph injected back into its box office numbers and critical acclaim.

Jake Schreier might just deliver the MCU’s next great film

It has been common knowledge for a while that Deadpool & Wolverine was a win that Marvel needed for quite some time. After the disastrous 2023, Marvel took a step back in 2024, keeping their releases minimal. Deadpool & Wolverine managed to create a great year for Marvel but was not necessarily the solution to all their issues.

Given the bad run that Marvel had, fans are going to require more than just one film to rebuild their trust in the brand, which is only going to come if Brave New WorldThunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four all manage to please them and critics alike.

While things seem a little grim for Captain America: Brave New World, the fact that Jake Schreier is directing Thunderbolts* might be something that relieves fans, given his episode being the best-rated (sitting at an 8.2 on IMDb). However, this might not necessarily be a cause for joy for Marvel fans.

Jake Schreier has directed films like Robot & Frank, which has resulted in a lot of critical acclaim for the director. But his film Paper Towns was also very heavily criticized. Thunderbolts* would mark the third feature-length film that he has come onto as director, which might not be something that gets Marvel fans very excited.

Thunderbolts* were also ordered to go through some reshoots, which has always been billed to the audience as standard practice. However, there is a precedent for reshot films not having the best track record. Jake Schreier might deliver something that the MCU desperately needs, or fail to impress fans or critics, which would just be another nail in the MCU’s coffin.

Thunderbolts* hits theatres on May 2, 2025.

Skeleton Crew is currently streaming on Disney+
