It’s nigh impossible to tire of Skyrim, especially if you’re playing on PC.

After all, there are some fantastic mods out there, with some practically as large as an official expansion.

That being said, if you do find yourself yearning for something new with a Skyrim flavour then you’re in the right place, as I’d like to bring Darkblade Ascent to your attention.

Developed by PST Games, Darkblade Ascent is a “fast-paced, first-person melee roguelike RPG”.

What sets Darkblade Ascent apart is that it’s not quite as focused on storytelling as Skyrim is.

Instead, it is concerned with combat, sending you through various runs, each boasting randomised locations and bosses, and procedurally generated weapons so no two runs are alike.

You’ll be able to select weapons that match your playstyle, whether you prefer damaging from range with a spear or getting in close with a powerful two-handed sword.

Defeat fantasy monsters and you’ll unlock important upgrades before you head to the next stage of your run.

There are various classes to unlock, each with its own talent tree and “game-changing effects”, whatever that means.

In each run, you can only pick one upgrade from a selection of three randomised options per each stage so you’re advised to choose carefully.

From abandoned villages to derelict cathedrals, you’ll traverse through all kinds of Skyrim-esque locations.

If you survive an entire run, you’ll unlock additional permanent perks and, of course, there’ll be a fair split of both bosses and lower tier goons.

Darkblade Ascent launched on Steam in early access just yesterday, on 12 February, and you can currently take advantage of an introductory offer.

It’s 15% off until 19 February, bringing the price down to £13.50.

Already, the game boasts a Positive review score, with 95% of the reviews fitting this category.

As such, it definitely sounds like one you should give a whirl.
