With The Last of Us Part II Remastered launching on PC later this year, a recent announcement has revealed that it could in fact be unplayable for millions of fans.

I wouldn’t blame you if you were confused with all The Last of Us remasters coming out in recent years but we may finally be done after April with the arrival of The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

First released on PlayStation consoles back in January 2024, it is now making its way to PC in April but according to a recent announcement by Sony, not all PC gamers will be able to access the Naughty Dog title.

Much like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarök and the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will, for some reason, require players to link their PSN accounts if they wish to play the game after purchasing it on Steam, Epic Games and other platforms.

Why you will need a PSN account in order to access a single-player game remains a mystery but what it does mean is those without access will be locked out of the game entirely.

This new way of doing things was also seen with the arrival of Helldivers 2 to PC but having to link your PSN account caused so much controversy that the game was review-bombed, leading to Sony reversing its decision.

Not only is it a hassle but it is worth noting that PSN is not supported in every country and so the game will quite literally be unplayable for certain residents.

Despite The Last of Us Part II not having any multiplayer features, it seems as though it is following suit with the new rules, much to the dismay of potential players.

“I don’t get why Sony’s forcing it for single player games,” Twitter user xMaluko said.

“If there was multiplayer/co-op, I would understand. But limiting so many people/countries from accessing games just doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Another wrote: “Limits thousands of players from playing. Sony is holding PC gaming back and should not be forgiven.”

Hopefully this decision will also be reversed but for now, it is not looking good for those affected.
