While having one tank can be fine in some situations, especially if the enemy team has three support and one tank, having two tanks to create space and push the point is usually the best way to secure a win.

With The Thing being added to the roster at the start of season 1.5, one would think that it would be easy to find players who want to play tank. The Thing is new and exciting and if we look at how fast players locked in Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic when they came out, you would think the same would happen with The Thing. Sadly, it did not.

Finding one player in Rivals that mains the Vanguard role is hard enough, let alone two tank mains, and it seems the original poster has had enough of this issue. Though I don’t mind playing the Vanguard role in Marvel Rivals here and there, I do think playing the role of a tank is a bit hectic sometimes. Non-stop barrages of attacks, knowing when to push in and when to back away, and having to trust your Strategist with your in-game life can be a lot to manage at once. “Tanking” in Rivals isn’t like other games, as you really do have to rely on support from other teammates to be successful.

With the steep learning curve, it’s easy to see why some might stray away from maining Vanguard heroes, but I will say a lot of the tanks are extremely fun to play and easy to learn. Thor is a powerhouse that can create massive amounts of space, Dr. Strange is unstoppable when he has a good Strategist to keep him alive if his shield gets broken, and Captain America can be an absolute pest to the enemy team’s healers if played right.

Hopefully, NetEase does consider adding a role queue down the line to help fix this Vanguard issue, but at the time of writing, it is still something that isn’t even on the devs’ radar. For now, if you haven’t tried to tank in Marvel Rivals, maybe give it a shot — you might just find your new favorite hero in the process.
