Since it was finally announced at this year’s The Game Awards, and even before then if we are being honest, The Witcher 4 has already become one of the most anticipated games of all time.
Taking place a few years after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and following the canon ending of Ciri becoming a Witcher, we follow her as she embarks on her monster-slaying journey but other than that, not much else is currently known.
Well, that is a lie as according to a recent interview with CD Projekt RED developers, we now know that The Witcher 4’s map will be quite hefty indeed.
Talking on the Friends Per Second podcast, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitrega shared some interesting news.
According to them, The Witcher 4’s map is “definitely more or less the same when it comes to size” and could be “90, 85, or 100 percent” the size of the map in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
It would appear that CDPR will be focusing on quality over quantity and it is reassuring to see that the intimate world full of random encounters and intriguing quests will not be overshadowed by a vast but empty open world.
According to official measurements, the map for The Witcher 3 was around 142 sq km and consists of Kaer Morhen in the north, The Skellige Isles in the South West and cities such as Novigrad, Velen, White Orchard and the Royal Palace of Vizima further inland.
It is currently unclear where Ciri’s journey will take her but we at least know from the world premiere trailer that she will be heading further north at one point in her story.
Until then, we will have to wait a bit longer to receive any more information about The Witcher 4.
However, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already becoming a modern-day classic, its sequel will have a lot to live up to.
