Avengers: Doomsday cast was announced on March 26, and it included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, The Fantastic Four stars, Thunderbolts* actors, and returning X-Men stars. It was announced during a five and a half hour livestream by Marvel Studios. They released an official video announcing the cast, featuring Downey Jr. himself.

While fans are excited about the bunch of names that were announced for the film, they were also curious about some of the notable names that were absent from the roster. Interestingly, when Downey Jr. commented on the “deep bench of talent”, Marvel Studios responded with an interesting response regarding the absent stars.

The new Avengers movie just announced its cast, and Marvel fans have a lot to celebrate. The studio already brought peak excitement to fans at last year’s SDCC when they announced Robert Downey Jr.‘s return in the role of Doctor Doom. They also announced at the event that Avengers: Endgame‘s Anthony and Joe Russo will be helming Avengers: Doomsday.

While the latest cast list has a lot of fan-favorite Marvel actors both from the current MCU and the former X-Men franchise, fans worry about the absent names on the list. Spider-Man actor Tom Holland and Captain America actor Chris Evans did not make it to the list. MCU’s new heartthrobs, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, were also absent.

Even though 26 stars were newly announced for the film, sources close to Marvel shared that the studio hasn’t revealed the entire cast (via THR). It was reported that other actors would be unveiled in the lead up to the film. Marvel Studios themselves hinted at adding more stars to the roster in response to Downey Jr.’s comment on the new cast.

Under the video announcement of the cast on Instagram, Downey Jr. teased the appearance of more MCU stars. He commented, “That’s what u call a deep bench of talent… actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it…right?”. Marvel replied, “There’s always room for more…”

Marvel fans hope that it is not a done deal for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord.

The newly announced cast of Avengers: Doomsday featured some of the returning actors from previous films. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Paul Rudd will be returning after a disappointing run with their solo movies. Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia are the returning stars from the Black Panther films.

The newbies in the cast came mostly from the upcoming Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four films. The lead stars of both the films and Sentry actor Lewis Pullman will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel also surprised fans with the addition of several actors from the now defunct X-Men universe. Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto will be appearing in the new film, alongside OG X-Men actors like James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammar. Channing Tatum returns in his fan-favorite role as Gambit after Deadpool & Wolverine.
