Swen Vincke, the founder and CEO of Larian has been quite vocal about his love for Dragon Age Origins and its characters. The game is very similar when it comes to character development, relationships, and of course, romances. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by Baldur’s Gate 3 fans, who have been comparing how similar the two games are.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Takes A Lot From Dragon Age Origins

The two follow different themes and Origins doesn’t quite give you the same amount of freedom as Baldur’s Gate 3 does. However, there are also a lot of similarities between the two, especially when it comes to its characters. Both fanbases are extremely fond of the companions in the games, and even have specific favourites.
“Swen literally went on an interview and said his favourite romance in all of gaming is Morrigan. The man has taste,” pointed out one comment on a Reddit post that suggested Dragon Age Origins would be perfect for Baldur’s Gate 3 fans. We all have our favourite romance in Larian’s version, and you’ll feel similarly when you play BioWare’s RPG.
“Morrigan is surely influencing all of them,” noted another player. “My opinion is that Astarion is the closest to her in personality. Mysterious, witty and callous. Those are the three words I would describe both of them with. They both have an enormously powerful and abusive parental figure. They both also have a softer side that makes them seem less evil than they are. Also both of them are sultry and seductive as all hell.”
“I feel like they split Morrigan into Shadowheart and Lae’zel,” suggested another. It’s no secret that the Witch of the Wilds is one of the best characters in the game, and perhaps one of the best companions in any RPG.
The parallels are pretty stark, especially when you look at it from the perspective that “Dragon Age: Origins was made to be like Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 was made and felt like Dragon Age: Origins. Full circle.”
