This Cyberpunk 2077 Feature Is Too Nice—Here’s How GTA 5 Does It Better

Johnny Silverhand From Cyberpunk 2077 with characters from GTA5.Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City is a dangerous yet captivating dystopian metropolis. The city is a constant battleground for power and corruption, where mercenaries, corporations, and gangs clash in pursuit of dominance. In a place where crime and chaos are rampant, there are a few things that just don’t make sense.

Something that falls short in a crime-ridden city is the controlled road behavior. Obeying the rules of the road feels out of place in a city otherwise teeming with chaos, violence, and an anything-goes attitude. It’s a small but glaring inconsistency that breaks the immersion of an otherwise gritty and unpredictable world.

Automatic Green Lights Are Convenient But Underwhelming

A Convenient Feature, But A Boring One Nonetheless

The chaotic Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 is ripe with violence and mayhem, so the automatic green lights seem like an odd and out-of-place feature to find amidst the constant chaos. Cyperpunk 2077 has gangs clashing in shadowy alleyways, mercenaries hunting down targets and completing tasks, and corporations pulling the strings behind the scenes, so the idea of smooth, uninterrupted traffic flow seems oddly convenient but also underwhelming.

While the automatic greenlight system in Cyberpunk 2077 is helpful for timed missions and quests, it takes away from the gritty, high-stakes atmosphere of the otherwise dangerous city. The predictable traffic flow goes against the constant danger and threats that lurk around every city corner. Night City’s streets are anything but orderly, yet the automatic green lights create a false sense of calm that feels disconnected from the overall environment.

Motorcycles in Cyberpunk 2077 are excellent vehicles for quick escapes, but be careful because motorcycles also have less protection and durability than other vehicles.

Despite being one of the more convenient features in Cyberpunk 2077the automatic green lights fail to reflect the true environment of Night City and the risk-driven nature of its citizens. While it is a minor detail, it certainly falls flat compared to the game’s more engaging and immersive aspects. There’s little to no excitement on the road, which feels weird in a city full of danger and action.

Cyberpunk Should Make Breaking The Rules Of The Road Matter

Breaking The Rules Of The Road Should Cause Chaos And Mayhem

In Cyberpunk 2077, driving through Night City can feel strangely calm, considering how crazy the world around you is. Breaking the rules of the road yields no consequences and makes the streets feel a little too safe in a city that is anything but. Breaking traffic rules should feel exciting and risky, but it doesn’t make much of an impact right now.

This is where Grand Theft Auto gets it right, particularly where GTA V is concerned. GTA implements road chaos perfectly, making the game feel more realistic, engaging, and fun. You can run from the cops, wreck cars, and get into wild chases. Even better is that your actions on the road in GTA matter. Whatever chaos unfolds has consequences, ending with civilians freaking out and cops chasing you. Breaking the rules in GTA brings real danger to the table, which is the opposite in Cyberpunk 2077.

It would be great if Cyberpunk 2077 took a page from GTA’s book and made breaking the rules on the road feel more exciting. Imagine if you could speed through a red light or crash into a car and trigger an intense chase. Cops could pursue you in a high-speed chase, or gangs could block the streets and launch their own attacks. The streets of Night City could feel like a place where anything could happen, making driving just as chaotic and unpredictable as everything else in the city.

If the game made breaking traffic laws a bigger part of the gameplay, the game would feel more alive. Adding consequences for reckless driving would increase the thrill of each drive, making the streets feel more connected to the wild world of Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
