TikTok has resumed operations in the U.S., and one of the biggest Marvel games is also planning to make a return soon.

The battle between TikTok and the US government came to a head last weekend when the social media platform was banned. However, TikTok was only unavailable for a brief time, as it’s finally been reinstated.

You might think that it’s a strange situation, but things get even weirder when Marvel Snap, out of nowhere, gets caught in the crossfire. The game was also banned alongside TikTok, but in the end, it’s finally making a return for American players.

TikTok is back and so is Marvel Snap for American players

Snap publisher Nuverse is the biggest division in ByteDance’s gaming business.

On January 19th, 2025, the US Government decided to ban TikTok. In the last couple of years, the social media app has been accused of stealing user data from the Chinese government by US politicians. Even though TikTok denied such claims, it was taken offline.

What was truly shocking was that Marvel Snap was also banned alongside the social media platform. Why did this happen? Well, the game is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of Tiktok’s parent company ByteDance.

After the social media platform’s services were restored, gamers couldn’t help but wonder what was going to happen with the Marvel game. Thankfully, developers have addressed the situation.

According to Snap‘s developers, they’re working on making the game playable again in the United States within the “next 12 hours”. This means that the fan-favorite title should be playable again by January 21.

It’s great to see that Snap is finally making a return. The game has been bombarded with constant new updates in recent months, and some of them have changed the very core of the gameplay experience. It would’ve been a shame to see all American players miss out on the fun!

TikTok is looking for a long-term solution

Reports from CNN suggest that Donald Trump is looking to sign an executive order on his very first day in office, which would push the ban on social media platforms by 90 days.

Back in the spring of 2024, Congress had a majority vote of Republicans and Democrats requiring the app to be banned if ByteDance didn’t sell the company by January 19th.

ByteDance still owns TikTok, and after multiple attempts to reverse Congress’ decision in the courts, it felt like the service would meet its end until Trump’s intervention.

Trump’s comments promising to preserve the social media platform were praised by TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who addressed the American users after the app was banned. He thanked the President for agreeing to settle with the company.

Chew suggests that he has long-term plans for maintaining the app in the country, but it’s still known if that will require ByteDance to exit it completely.
