Games and Avalanche Software should focus on improving the sequel’s experience instead of reverting to the first game. Deepening RPG elements like building relationships and interacting with daily school life would go a long way toward making Hogwarts Legacy 2 bigger and better than its predecessor. Though Warner Bros. Games or Avalanche Software hasn’t officially announced new content, a recent Bloomberg article stated that Avalanche is currently working on both more content for Hogwarts Legacy and a sequel. Beyond that nugget of information, no credible information has come out regarding what new content would look like or even any timeline. However, this information does seem true when considering that Warner Bros. Games is likely desperate for a win after the underperformance of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and the abysmal failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

While nothing has been confirmed regarding content for Hogwarts Legacy, the sequel has had some substantial rumors to paint a picture of what players could expect. The most important information was provided by David Haddad, former president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, who explained that the sequel’s plot would tie into the story of the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series.

While this statement is vague, since the HBO series will likely span the main seven books of the series, it could mean a significant time jump for the sequel or even the inclusion of major book/movie characters. However, since Warner Bros. Games have been so directionless in the past few years, it’s equally likely that the sequel will have nothing to do with the main series beyond sharing a universe.

It’s been a full two years since Hogwarts Legacy came out, and if the studios are just now revving the engine for more expansion, then they’re far too late.

Ideally, Hogwarts Legacy should have capitalized on its own hype right away, adding more RPG elements for players to truly feel like they’re attending Hogwarts. Attending more classes, eating in the great hall, studying at the library, earning points for your house, and building relationships with classmates and teachers would go a long way to making the game a spectacular immersive experience. Discussing what should have happened may be a moot point, but learning from the first game’s mistakes and lack of initiative for more content post-release could help Hogwarts Legacy 2 perform better.

In short, it’s far too late to change the experience of Hogwarts Legacy. Too much time has passed since the first game, and it failed to capitalize on being the RPG of the year in 2023. Instead of going back to try and scrape more from the 2023 title, Avalanche Software should look to the future and focus entirely on a sequel.

Any sequel to Hogwarts Legacy also has a unique opportunity available since it can set itself at any point in the history of the magical school rather than being forced to follow the characters of the first game. Hogwarts Legacy has a definite end, so the sequel can take place as far back or forward as the writers want. This option is entirely unique for a sequel and should be fully taken advantage of, and, alongside the years of player feedback, should make for a stunning addition to the canon of the wizarding world.
