Monster Hunter Wilds transforms co-op again for the series, aiming to make it easier than ever to party up and play with your friends. But, as with some other menus and systems in the game, it is still not the easiest to find out how to start a co-op hunt within the story, and there are some hurdles here compared to teaming up in the rest of the game.

Here are the steps to be able to play with your friends through the story in Monster Hunter Wilds:

Form a Link Party with your friends
Watch any cutscenes on your own
Within the mission, then get your friends to accept the invites sent out to Link Party members

This is the main hurdle players are finding. Just like in Monster Hunter World, players are forced to watch any cutscenes separately and can’t do it while with others. So you need to finish any cutscenes before you can invite people. The point at which you can invite people is shown when the mission start screen pops up.

Thanks to the Link Party system, the co-op experience has been streamlined a bit because any mission that is started by someone will automatically invite everyone else in the link party to it. However, you still need to wait until key story cutscenes have finished, and any mid-mission cutscenes will interrupt this co-op experience.

It’s not ideal and far from what the experience should be in 2025. Hopefully, Capcom will provide some improvements down the line and drop the cutscene requirement that causes so many issues.
