Seridur explains that he’s a member of an exclusive organization of vampire hunters, the Order of the Virtuous Blood. He’s determined that one Roland Jenseric is a vampire, and is responsible for a recent string of murders in the Imperial City. You’ll need to track him down and kill him. But as soon as you find Roland, he tells a very different story. While you have no reason to trust either of these men on their word alone, there’s a clear right answer that leads to the best outcome in “Order of the Virtuous Blood.”
What Happens If You Kill Roland Jenseric?
Pros & Cons Of Siding With Seridur

If you agree to kill Roland, you’ll first have to find him. Roland’s house will be marked on your map; find it, and break into it using either your lockpicking skills or the appropriate spell. Roland has a typical Imperial City house, and it can be pretty difficult to tell what you’re looking for at first glance. The only thing you need to find here, though, is the Love Letter from Relfina. It’s sitting on the dining table directly in front of the main entrance, on the far side of the table as you’re coming in.
Read the letter, and it’ll reveal that Roland has a small cabin northeast of the Imperial City. The marker will be added to your map. At this point, you can return to speak with Seridur, but he’ll offer no help; you can proceed to Roland’s cabin when you’re ready. You’ll find him waiting there – you can either speak with him first, or kill him outright. He’s not a particularly tough fight, so just use your usual tactics to take him down.
Return to Seridur, announce that the deed is done, and you’ll receive a rather underwhelming reward of 250 gold. The quest ends abruptly if you take this route, and you’ll miss out on a little more content, including an opportunity to become a vampire if that’s your thing. However, there are no other negative consequences. This quest doesn’t seem to contribute to your Fame either way, and Roland doesn’t show up in any other major quests if he is kept alive.
What Happens If You Spare Roland Jenseric?
Pros & Cons Of Siding With Roland

Phintias is the owner of First Edition, a bookstore in the Imperial City. You can reliably find him there during the shop’s operating hours. Raise his opinion of you as high as you can using the Persuade mini-game, then ask about Seridur directly. Seridur’s a frequent customer, he says, and has mentioned offhand that he sometimes spends time at Memorial Cave.
If you’re simultaneously doing the Thieves Guild questline in Oblivion Remastered, First Edition is a great target for low-weight, high-value items (i.e., books) to easily increase your total amount fenced.
Head over there next – it’s just east of the Arcane University. Inside Memorial Cave, you’ll indeed find the bodies of several vampire hunters, along with a few living skeletons and vampires who’ll attack you. Note that whenever a vampire attacks you with a melee attack, you run the risk of contracting Porphyric Hemophilia. If you don’t treat this disease with a spell, potion, or a shrine/temple visit within 72 in-game hours, you’ll turn into a vampire. Visit Count Hassildor in Skingrad or the Font of Renewal on the south coast (southeast of Leyawiin) if you need a cure after 72 hours.
Either way, in the central chamber of Memorial Cave, you’ll find Seridur waiting for you. Unsurprisingly, he knows exactly why you’ve come, and even hoped you’d follow him, so he could get rid of you far outside the Imperial City where there are no witnesses. He’ll attack you after promising to take out Roland and the rest of the Order.
Once Seridur is down, you’ll need to return to Roland’s cabin, where you can tell him it’s safe to go home. He asks you to come visit him in Seridur’s basement after a few days have gone by. Do just that, and Roland will announce that he’s planning on continuing the Order of the Virtuous Blood. He’ll make you an official member on the spot. While you can’t rank up with or do quests for the Order like other Oblivion Remastered factions, you can claim a 250 gold bounty for every vampire you kill by bringing Roland pinches of Vampire Dust.
You Should Spare Roland Jenseric
Sparing Roland Creates New Opportunities

Regardless of what else you do, you should make sure to spare Roland during “Order of the Virtuous Blood.” Besides the fact that his story is objectively correct, choosing to take Roland at his word provides the best possible rewards in this quest. You’ll get a nice little ring, and the opportunity to earn quite a bit of gold by hunting vampires across Cyrodiil. You can also use Roland’s route during this quest as an opportunity to become a vampire yourself if you so desire. Doing so has no effect on your standing with the Order.
Ultimately, though, it’s up to you. Since Roland doesn’t show up for any other quests, and there are many other ways to become a vampire, there’s no absolute need to keep him alive. Just pick whatever makes the most sense for you and your playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
