“Wait, Wait, Wait”: Severance’s Adam Scott Got Injured In Season 2 Finale’s Fight & A Doctor Was Called, But It Made The Final Cut

Mark is shocked to see Drummond in Severance season 2 finale

Adam Scott explains how he got injured filming the Severance season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor.” The Apple TV+ show wrapped up its sophomore installment, with a major cliffhanger looming around following Mark’s big decision. The conclusion also came with the confirmation of Severance season 3, which will continue to explore the lives of the innies and outies as they fight for and against Lumon. The well-received finale featured everything from the return of the goat woman, a video-recorded conversation between outie and innie Mark, and an epic fight sequence.

However, Scott admitted to GQ that he was hurt during the Severance season 2 finale fight. Addressing the scene when Mark and Mr. Drummond fight in a small hallway, Scott mentioned that he was “supposed to bring [his] arms up” when filming the scene, but ended up getting tangled up in his suit. So, his head ended up hitting the wall and a doctor had to be called. Despite the potentially dangerous outcome, the take was so good that it made it into the final cut. Check out Scott’s full quote below:

I mean, the truly dangerous stuff that requires skill was stunts, and they were incredible. I did hit my head on a wall at one point. Afterwards, I was like, “Wait, wait, wait,” because I got slammed into the wall. I was supposed to bring my arm up—we practiced it over and over again—but I just got caught on my suit. [We] called a doctor and all that stuff. Ben [Stiller] was making sure I’m OK, then he came up to me a little later and he goes, [whispers] “By the way, so good,” so it’s in the show.

What This Meant For The Severance Season 2 Finale

This Was The Show’s First Physical Fight

While Severance has been replete with intensity throughout all 19 episodes so far, the season 2 finale saw the show’s first physical fight. Several elements made the scene particularly intense, including, as the interviewer points out, the “narrow hallway.” Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who plays Drummond, is also of a much larger physical stature than Scott. On the one hand, this makes the scene visually engaging and suspenseful, as Drummond can actually throw Mark into the wall. Still, his height and size difference may have made it more difficult for the actors.

Despite Scott getting hurt in the scene in real life, Mark ultimately wins the Severance finale fight against all odds. After their initial skirmish, Mark convinces Drummond to go down to the testing floor with him. Holding a bolt gun in his hand, outie Mark accidentally pulls the trigger when the elevator converts him to his other persona. As a result, Mr. Drummond meets his end in the finale, and Mark is able to find Gemma.

Our Take On The Severance Season 2 Finale Fight

The Take Used Was Effective

Despite Scott’s minor injuries, I think Stiller was right to use that take for the final cut. Seeing Mark’s head hit the wall leaves a lot more impact than his arm hitting it, which, even if subtle, might have been visible on screen. Because of Mark’s smaller stature in comparison to Mr. Drummond, the scenes see the innie being thrown around like a rag doll. This puts the protagonist in a compromising position, leading to an effectively intense Severance season 2 ending.
