Now, with a bombshell free update teasing new dungeons and “a bit of whee,” the director’s dropping hints: Esquie could soar back in DLC, a sequel, or even his own wild tale. Nobody could have possibly guessed how Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ended. Just as we thought the game was finally over and all of Lumiere’s troubles finally came to an end, the devs at Sandfall dropped an all-timer of a twist on us. Now that we’re getting more content and a whole new area, we can only wonder what they’ve got cooking for our expeditioners.

Not only that, Sandfall has also begun working on its next title. While we have no idea what it will be, they’ve said that it will be just as “crazy” as Expedition 33, if not more. We’ll have to wait for a while to learn more about this new project, but a recent interview has revealed that it could possibly feature a fan-favourite character from the last game.

Esquie Might Feature In Expedition 33 Dev’s Next Game

Esquie was undoubtedly one of the best characters in Expedition 33. Not only did he provide Gustave and gang with a means of travel across the continent, but his “whees” and “whoos” kept things light at camp. In an interview with PCGamesN, CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche hinted that he could return in the future; possibly in the added content, or maybe even in the next game.

While speaking about how much of his original vision made it to the final game, Broche said that the version we played was only about 85 percent of what he had thought up. As for what else he wanted to include, he said, “I would have loved to do a bit more with Esquie personally, but it’s something that we might want to do later,” Broche reveals. “But overall I think we are all pretty, pretty happy [with] where we ended up.”

It’s more likely that the upcoming additional content might focus a bit more on Esquie. However, we wouldn’t say no to another game that reveals more about Clair Obscur’s world, with Esquie returning. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what Broche meant by this as of now.

While Broche may have wanted to include more, COO Francois Meurisse thinks even this 85 percent far exceeded anything that he ever thought he’d make. “I think it’s 85% of your vision, but to me it’s 120% of whatever I could have dreamed of as a game maker,” he chimed in.
