If you took Far Cryās high-octane FPS action, Dark Soulsā aesthetic, and Resident Evilās perfected blend of action and horror, mixing together these three ingredients in a bowl, youād end up with something a little bit likeĀ Crisol: Theater of Idols.
Developed by Vermila Studios and set to be published by Blumhouse Games,Ā Crisol: Theater of IdolsĀ is an upcoming action-adventure/RPG hybrid that takes players to Hispania, a twisted version of Spain.
āPlay as Gabriel, a soldier who uses blood as both a weapon and lifeline. Explore the cursed island of Tormentosa, uncover dark secrets, and battle horrifying enemies. Will you survive?ā teases the synopsis.
Itās a tad vague, but allow me to unpack the game in a little more detail.
Played from a first-person perspective,Ā Crisol: Theater of IdolsĀ sees players assume the role of soldier Gabriel who, as hinted at in the synopsis, can use his own blood as a weapon.
Why might he need to do that? Well, heās on a mission to complete a divine task set by the Sun God thatāll take him to the island of Tormentosa – a location with a chilling history of cults and blood sacrifice.
Beyond that, story details are thin on the ground, but I can tell you what gameplay will consist of.
Blood ties into everything, and doesnāt just power your weapons; itāll help you solve puzzles as you fight for your life, but you have to use it wisely.
āEvery shot drains your life,ā devs warn, so youāre not going to want to recklessly charge into every combat encounter.
Of course, there are upgrades youāll be able to unlock but thereās no information just yet on what those might look like.
Whilst navigating through Tormentosa, you will be able to unlock new weapons.
As for the gameās enemies, theyāre described as āstaggering statues brought to lifeā but Iād say thatās underselling how creepy they are.
Thereās one gif on the Steam description of this game, featuring one of these creatures, thatās been replaying the entire time Iāve been typing, and Iām pretty sure itās about to become a mainstay in my nightmares.
Reflecting the religious undertones of the game, these statues look like the kind of ornate deities you might see represented in places of worship, albeit with blood dripping from their eyes.
Crisol: Theater of IdolsĀ remains without a release date for now but we do know that itās coming toĀ PCĀ viaĀ Steam,Ā PlayStation 5, andĀ XboxĀ Series X/S.
