Following the first trailer for the next big MCU film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, fans are lamenting the recasting of one of its lead characters: Mister Fantastic himself.

In a thread over on the r/Marvel subreddit, fans discussed whether or not they believe that Pedro Pascal is a good fit for Mister Fantastic, and it’s clear that a lot of folks are missing John Krasinski’s take on the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“No. He’s struggling to hide the accent. But I like Pedro so I want to watch the movie and I’ll see how he does with more action and lines. Still wish they kept John Krasinksi,” commented user xdrkcldx.

“He’s gonna be great and that was never in question, I was just really disappointed that John Krasinski is not reprising the role. That’s all so many fans wanted and I thought multiverse of madness solidified he’d be the MCUs Mr. Fantastic,” replied user bingbongsingalong420.

“The multiverse and variants for characters opens up so many possibilities, I just shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up… I’m excited still! Love the casting now that I’ve accepted the heartache lol.”

I sort of get some of the upset, because Krasinski had been a wildly popular pick for the character years prior to his role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

On the other hand, there’s always the chance for him to return down the line as a parallel universe version of the character.

Alternatively, he could always take on the role of Mister Fantastic’s evil variant, The Maker, should Marvel choose to take the MCU in that direction down the line.

Of course, Miles Teller is a very popular pick for the role of The Maker (understandably), so perhaps Krasinski’s role was a one-and-done sort of affair.

Unless of course, Avengers: Doomsday really is bringing back everyone…
