Netflix’s Devil May Cry reboot can still have a chance to pay homage to the original games if they move forward with a particular creative choice.

This is to be expected since such a hugely popular franchise is bound to draw in both returning and new fans to the show. Although a particular news about the upcoming show gained mixed reviews from the fandom recently after the show’s first glimpse made it to the social media.
However, most fans seem to be just as excited about it even now. Especially since there might still be a chance for the new Devil May Cry series to pay homage to the original games.
Netflix’s Devil May Cry reboot still has a chance to pay homage to the original games
As stated above, fans have been hyped up for Netflix’s Devil May Cry reboot since the show was first announced. The excitement only seemed to have hyped up since the first visuals of the upcoming series hit the screen after the IGN Fan Fest.

At the same time, though, what sort of put a damper on their excitement was the reveal that Johnny Yong Bosch would be voicing Dante in the series. Fans are aware that Bosch has been a part of the franchise for years.
As a result, one would imagine that fans would rejoice at the veteran to be a part of the reboot as well. The problem is that Bosch had been voicing Nero in the games, while in the anime, he had taken on the role of Dante.
As a result, many longtime fans of the series had trouble wrapping their heads around the abrupt shift. However, there were others who were excited all the same as they believed that by the time the anime rolls around, they would have ample time to get used to it.
Meanwhile, the curiosity regarding the cast of the other major characters in the show has also been increasing in the fandom. The recent trailer release has only added to that curiosity further. Especially since the trailer showed Vergil in action as well.
As such, many fans seem to think that this might be the anime’s chance to pay homage to the original games by bringing Dan Southworth as Vergil. However, a debate has ensued on the topic since the VA for Vergil sounds nothing like Southworth.
Especially as many people believe that Southworth’s inclusion would not only have eased the blow of changing Bosch’s character, but also would have increased the hype around the show. Interestingly, though, there is another faction of fans who seem to be of a different opinion.
Fans weigh in on the changes in Netflix’s Devil May Cry reboot
As stated above, the Devil May Cry franchise has been out there for a while. As such, while the excitement for the reboot has been tenfold in the fandom, the reaction to any apparent changes have also been tremendous.

Especially as the trailer makes it seems like Dan Southworth won’t be reprising his character as Vergil in the upcoming anime. Now, while this has obviously been another blow to some fans after Johnny Yong Bosch was revealed to be voicing Dante, another faction of fans seem to believe this is for the best.
Their reason being, that since they have been witnessing the both of as Nero and Vergil in the games, Southworth reprising his character while Bosch moved on to another would feel disproportionate in the long run.
Likening the duo to Kevin Conroy’s Batman and Mark Hamill’s Joker from the DC animated series, one fan noted on the r/DevilMayCry subreddit, “You can’t have one without the other”. A lot of other fans also agreed with that remark, stating, “it is for the better”.
Although there seems to be mixed reactions from the Devil May Cry fandom regarding the upcoming anime reboot’s creative choices, most fans seem to be excited for it all the same. It’ll be interesting to see how things ultimately play out when the show finally airs on Netflix. For now, though, fans seem to be hoping for the best.
The Devil May Cry anime reboot is slated to air on Netflix on April 3rd, 2025.
