Time’s ticking! 🕰️ Clint Eastwood’s biggest hit is about to disappear from Netflix, and you’ve only got 19 days left to catch it!
This legendary film, a true classic, has been one of Eastwood’s finest works, but soon it’ll be gone—leaving fans scrambling to watch it one last time.
American Sniper remains the highest-grossing movie that veteran director Clint Eastwood has ever made. Portraying the story of real American sniper Chris Kyle, the film was a stark reminder of the U.S. war in Iraq and its consequences.
That doesn’t mean to say that the film didn’t have any flaws, as American Sniper received a lot of backlash and criticism for its portrayal of Chris Kyle and an oversimplification of things. Naturally, American Sniper will be leaving Netflix soon, and you have just 19 days to watch it (which we highly recommend you do).

With Bradley Cooper portraying the lead role, American Sniper was a biopic about the deadliest U.S. sniper in history. From his initial drafting in the army to his deployment in Iraq, and finally facing off against Mustafa (a fictionalized version of the real-life snipers in Iraq who would pick off U.S. soldiers one by one), American Sniper is truly one of the finest films that Eastwood has ever directed.
Well, the film is available to stream on Netflix but only for a couple more days (19 to be exact) since Episodi reported that American Sniper is set to leave Netflix on 11 July 2025.
The reason for this departure is because expiring licensing agreements between the movie and Netflix. Although Netflix could potentially renew the license, it seems that the streaming giant might choose not to because of the plethora of controversies that have followed the film ever since its release.
From debates between Clint Eastwood’s take on anti-war and pro-war propaganda to historical inaccuracies in the life of Chris Kyle, the film is literally riddled with problems, and here’s what we think about the controversy surrounding American Sniper.
Our thoughts on the American Sniper controversy and what Clint Eastwood feels about it
After the film’s release, several people questioned what Clint Eastwood was trying to say with American Sniper. Was he pro-war by glorifying the kills and skills during a war, or was he anti-war by showcasing Chris Kyle’s life and the consequences that his family suffered?

Well, if you ask Clint Eastwood about it, he’ll say exactly what he said to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2015, that the film was completely anti-war by showing the intense stress that soldiers go through for their country.
I think it’s nice for veterans, because it shows what they go through, and that life, and the wives and families of veterans. It has a great indication of the stresses they are under. And I think that all adds up to kind of an anti-war.
Although Eastwood believes that his film was anti-war, a debate about American Sniper has been going on for quite a while. However, we think that Eastwood was indeed telling the truth since the movie does give an anti-war message.
From the opening scenes of Chris Kyle killing a child for trying to kill U.S. soldiers, the story of emotional regret and guilt starts. Every kill that Kyle takes is a stark reminder to him that he is only doing it for his country. Some say that Kyle didn’t have enough psychological effects from the war in the movie; however, we think that his family suffered enough consequences due to Kyle’s skills of being the deadliest U.S. sniper in history.
Yes, the reason for the Iraq war was oversimplified to an extent, but that was the only point where Eastwood fell short. We think that the ending of American Sniper was as emotional as it could get, and it was because of PTSD that Chris Kyle was shot and killed in the movie (though off-camera). But overall, it was a pretty damn good movie.
As an iconic war biopic and a stellar performance by Bradley Cooper, American Sniper remains one of Clint Eastwood’s best movies of all time.
American Sniper is currently available to stream on Netflix (USA).
