Fallout fans need to know how to hack terminals correctly, because I can guarantee many don’t.

Regardless of how you play Fallout 4, whether your character is a technological wizard or a bumbling buffoon, you will inevitably have to hack terminals to progress through the game.

For many, terminals can be quite daunting as there’s a lot of information to process and most of the time you’re on the clock.

Fortunately, there’s a very useful thread on Reddit full of information on the game’s most secretive tips, tricks, and more, and one of the entries gives you a full guide on how to make terminal hacking easier.

To put it simply, you can make life easier for yourself by selecting specific characters while hacking them, such as “( )”, “< >” and “{ }”, and I’ll tell you why.

Selecting one of these will do one of several things, like removing some incorrect words from the jumble of characters on screen, or giving you back chances to keep you from being locked out for getting it wrong.

Basically, they’re worth looking out for whenever you hack a terminal but the game won’t point them out to you, so you’ll need to find them for yourself.

You’ll still have to complete the puzzle too, there’s no “beat it for me” symbol to find, but this does typically make the hacking minigame foolproof.

Best to make a note of it as it can come in handy in a pinch, as some of the terminals get really challenging later into the game.

The alternative is take Nick Valentine with you everywhere you go, as he can hack basically any terminal apart from Master-Locked ones, so he’s worth having in your party if you hate that minigame.
