“You’ll Kill Them All”: What Dr. Mauer’s Line To Mark Means In Severance Season 2’s Finale

Severance season 2’s finale features a dark line from Dr. Mauer, one that could hint at a tumultuous future for the severed floor. The ending of Severance season 2 was expectedly huge for the future of the show, with both Innie and Outie Mark joining forces to free Gemma from Lumon’s clutches. Mark’s Cold Harbor project in Severance was completed, but before Lumon’s final tests for Gemma could be completed, Innie Mark managed to reach Lumon’s Testing Floor and pass the baton to Outie Mark so that she could be freed.

During these stress-inducing moments, Dr. Mauer was shown trying to stop Mark from leaving with Gemma at all costs. What will happen to Mauer after Cold Harbor’s failure is one of the questions that Severance season 3 must answer, yet the Lumon doctor also raises a query about other severed workers. As Mark and Gemma were leaving on the elevator, Dr. Mauer shouted “You’ll kill them all!”, begging the question of what exactly this comment means, how it will impact Severance season 3’s story, and the broader implications it could have concerning Lumon’s future.

The first group that Dr. Mauer’s comments could apply to are the severed workers of Lumon. After all, we do not know how big an effect the foiling of Cold Harbor will have on Lumon overall, and could result in widespread retribution. Given that this is undoubtedly the biggest act of rebellion among the severed workers, probably in Lumon’s entire history, the company could fire all of them, thus “killing” them as Irving was in Severance season 2, episode 4.

Another possibility is that the severed workers specifically used for testing, like Gemma, will face the consequences of Mark’s actions. The wider implications of Cold Harbor have not yet been outlined, but it is likely that Lumon had other subjects waiting to be tested on, considering Gemma was going to be killed if all went to plan. Cold Harbor could have been integral to these further tests, meaning without Gemma, the planned test subjects have no purpose and are disposable to Lumon.

Mark Ruining Cold Harbor Could Be Much Worse For Lumon

The Company Itself Could Face A Collapse Of Sorts

Stemming from Mauer’s comments in Severance season 2’s finale, Lumon could be in a deal of trouble. It was clear that Cold Harbor was the main focus of Lumon’s many dark tests, with Mark’s completion of the file being described as the biggest day in the company’s history. Now that Cold Harbor has been foiled, the plans that likely stemmed from this are dead in the water.

This could lead Lumon to be drastically downsized and, as mentioned, potentially lead to severed workers being let go. This would only hinder any other plans Lumon had going forward, with the company’s future being a burning question season 3 has to address. Overall, Dr. Mauer’s threatening final line in Severance season 2 could prove to be one that impacts the show more than any other, be it from the perspective of Lumon or the workers that the company employs.
