FromSoftware’s yet-to-be-released Elden Ring Nightreign is already proving to be an inspiration, including for the upcoming Lies of P DLC.

Lies of P and Nightreign

Lies of P, often called the spiritual successor to Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Bloodborne, is regarded as one of the best Soulslike games out there, a title it has earned deservingly. The game takes much inspiration from the Souls gothic formula, and so does its upcoming Overture DLC.

In a surprising twist of inspiration, Lies of P’s director, Choi Ji-Won revealed how he got to experience FromSoftware’s upcoming multiplayer title Elden Ring Nightreign, which has in turn motivated him to bring the best out of his game’s upcoming DLC.

Bearing in mind how it is their first proper venture into a dedicated multiplayer experience, Elden Ring: Nightreign can undoubtedly be called a visionary title by FromSoftware, and it is already inspiring other titles before even launching, which is slated for the 30th of May this year.

We are talking about Lies of P: Overture DLC. The extension of the much-popular Soulslike game is scheduled to release in the coming months, and here is what its director had to say about it in a conversation with Eurogamer during the Game Developers Conference.

I’ve tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new, So that obviously gave me the impression that they’re good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be.

Choi Ji-Won disclosed how, in his try run of FromSoftware’s upcoming title, he realized that the studio always keeps pushing for excellence. While it’s hard to imagine that the upcoming Lies of P DLC will take after the multiplayer aspect of Nightreign, Ji-Won, in reality, feels more motivated to make Overture ‘as good as it can be,’ pushing his own boundaries and limits to deliver the best gaming experience.

Despite being the mastermind of a handful of amazing Soulsborne games, there’s only so much that Hidetaka Miyazaki can deliver when it comes to fans’ expectations. A perfect example would be how a sequel to Bloodborne is a dream that’s never going to come true.

Fortunately, this is exactly where games like Lies of P step in, capturing the essence of the Souls genre and bringing a new and exciting twist. The title received wide acclaim when it first came out, and its first DLC hopes to capture the audience’s heart once again.

For those who are clueless, the Lies of P: Overture expansion brings us a prequel to the main events of the storyline, giving us an insight into what went down before the City of Krat went down in chaos.
