Netflix’s American Primeval has landed straight onto the top 10 charts. The show takes its viewers right back to the Wild West of America in the year 1857 and depicts the hefty violence between Natives, pioneers, Mormon soldiers and the U.S. government. It’s been super popular so far, but what’s the future of the show? Seven episodes just weren’t enough. Here’s everything we know about American Primeval season two, and the news might just be better than expected.

It’s currently unknown if American Primeval will return because Netflix has labelled the show a miniseries, which usually means a release lasting for just one run. However, miniseries don’t usually do as well as American Primeval has done.

From sequel to prequel

Despite being unconfirmed, show creator Peter Berg told The Hollywood Reporter they were talking about season two “right now.” Eek!
To make things even more exciting, it looks like we would be getting something even better than a sequel: A prequel. Peter Berg explained he’d love to expand Isaac’s story, saying he was “ripe for a prequel series.”
Berg said: “Good pick. That’s the way we’d go if we do it, and I don’t know if we will, but that would be the way we would go.”

One of the huge challenges the creators faced was the young cast ageing quickly throughout the writer/actor strikes. Because of this, it’s uncertain whether a prequel would be viable.

“Well, one of the challenges there is that Shawnee and Preston, the actors that played Two Moons and Devin, we had enough trouble because the strike got us. We had to shut down for five months, and Preston went full puberty on us and gained three inches [in height] and his voice dropped and he started having hair on his face. It would be a real big time jump to keep that crew going, but the idea of looking backwards is really interesting to me,” Berg said.

The Independent interviewed Dane Dehann, who plays Jacob Pratt in American Primeval. He had glowing reviews of the finished show, explaining that it’s “hard to put into words how intense this show really is.”
