Dexter: Resurrection adds a powerful character to the cast. Who is he?

When Dexter aired its series finale in 2013, fans didn’t want it to be the end of complicated serial killer Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) story. Now one of the two TV shows expanding the beloved Dexter universe has cast a beloved actress.

Deadline reported that Uma Thurman has been cast as a series regular in Dexter: ResurrectionClyde Phillips is the showrunner and executive producer on the series. While the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiered in December 2024, fans are still curious about what Dexter: Resurrection is going to be like.

Thurman is playing Head of Security Charley who works for Leon Prater, a billionaire. Although Thurman has proven herself as a beloved action and drama star for several decades now, she hasn’t appeared in many TV shows. Some of her most memorable roles include Dr. Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin in 1997, Cécile de Volanges in Dangerous Liaisons which was released in 1988, Mia Wallace in 1994’s Pulp Fictionand perhaps her best-known part, Beatrix Kiddo/The Bride in Kill Bill: Volume 1 in 2003 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. As for Thurman’s TV work, she played Ariana Huffington in Super Pumped in 2022, Lenny Cohen in six episodes of the dark comedy Imposters in 2017 and 2018, and Anouk Latham in the NBC 2015 miniseries The Slap.

Although Dexter passed away in the finale of Dexter: New Blood, the Showtime revival that aired in 2021, the serial killer is back in the new series. Viewers are curious about how the new show will explain what happened to this character. According to Variety, in July 2024, when Hall was asked about Dexter’s death being official at San Diego Comic-Con, he asked:

“Was it? I don’t know what I am authorized to say other than, it’s really cold out there.”

Dexter: Resurrection includes several familiar cast members Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista. It can be challenging to achieve the correct balance of newcomers and popular cast members in a revival movie or TV show, but it looks like Dexter: Resurrection will do a great job. It will be interesting to see how Thurman’s character fits into this framework of engaging characters who aren’t who they seem. Chances are that Charley will have as many secrets as Dexter does, which will be fun to watch. She sounds like a complex and smart character.

While fans continue to wish for Kill Bill 3, everyone can check out Thurman’s performance as Charley when Dexter: Resurrection premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime in June 2025.
