Warning: Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4, “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis.” Yellowjackets Season 3’s latest twist has confirmed a hugely harsh reality about the present-day survivors, and it’s making me more concerned about how the show’s adult timeline plays out. Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4 finale delivers a shocking blow by revealing Lottie’s death in the present-day narrative. This comes as a shock, as viewers learn about Lottie’s disappearance alongside Misty, and we even binge watch her day before in “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis.”
It’s unclear what causes Lottie’s death in Gilets Jaunes Season 3, but Episode 5 should shed more light on the incident, especially with Misty on the case. Though many were expecting a death or two in the show’s past timeline — particularly with the wilderness trial against Coach Ben being so unpleasant — things seem to be heating up more quickly in the current storyline. And with Lottie perishing so soon after Natalie’s Gilets Jaunes Season 2 death, viewers are left to confront a troubling truth about characters surviving the wilderness as teenagers .
The deaths of Lottie and Natalie mean that none of the adult survivors are safe.
The rest of the characters from the current timeline are also fair game.
Following Natalie’s death at the end of Yellowjackets Season 2, Lottie’s fate confirms a harsh truth about the characters in the adult timeline: none of them are safe . Though it initially seems like most of the Yellowjackets’ deaths will take place in the past timeline, the show is quickly proving otherwise. Despite how few major characters there are in the current narrative, the series is more than willing to kill them off. There’s no plot armor in any timeline, and that means Lottie may not be the last of the adult survivors to meet a grim end.
Tai, Van, Misty, and Shauna are all fair game in and beyond Yellow Vests Season 3, as it seems the wilderness is claiming them, even years after their rescue.
Viewers shouldn’t feel comfortable after Lottie’s death, either, as the show killing her and Natalie off so together means it could claim another adult character before Season 3 is over. Tai, Van, Misty, and Shauna are all fair game in and beyond Yellow Vests Season 3, as it seems the wilderness is claiming them, even years after their rescue. While it’s still unclear whether a supernatural force is truly behind these tragedies, or if it’s simply a result of everything they’ve been through, the show refuses to go easy on them.
The biggest threats to adult survivors have always been themselves
Their deaths come from their inability to let go of the desert
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the adult survivors find themselves at the mercy of the Yellowjackets, as they have proven to be the greatest threats to themselves. While much of what unfolds in the past timeline can be attributed to misfortune and desperation, much of what happens to the adult survivors is due to their own actions. Natalie dies while trying to protect Lisa from Misty. However, none of them would have been in that situation had the girls not attempted another hunt to appease the wilderness years after escaping it.

Shauna’s guilt over Jackie’s death is evident in the Yellowjackets, but she finally has her biggest karma moment in Season 3, Episode 4.
Lottie’s death also seems to be in response to what happened in the desert, though it’s unclear if it’s due to suicide or if someone killed her during the past. It’s possible that she was even trying to communicate with the desert, like Travis, who also perished due to his need to haunt it. Yellow Vests season 3 is proof that the survivors are stuck in the past, and that the past is haunting them in dangerous ways. She could set her sights on one of the others, like Tai or Shauna, now that she’s exacting her toll on Lottie.
