It’s time for ‘The Night Agent’ to make this big change with Rose. But if they intend to keep her, they should commit to this important thing!

Season 2 of the Netflix series The Night Agent brought the characters back together with even higher stakes, but Peter Sutherland’s (Gabriel Basso) new mission has nothing to do with Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan). This time, Rose gets involved because of her love for Peter rather than being the target. However, Season 1 proved that Rose is good in a crisis, and her technical prowess comes in handy during Season 2. While The Night Agent introduced Rose as an unexpected victim with no insight into the world of government intelligence, she has proven a valuable asset. But if they intend to keep her around, The Night Agent should commit to making Rose an agent in her own right.

Rose Has Proven Herself in ‘The Night Agent’

At first, Rose is unassuming, but as the story develops, she is shown to have a good head on her shoulders and a natural talent for solving mysteries. The character is more than a moral compass for Peter as she excels in doing the research needed. Rose uses her technological know-how in Season 1’s finale by manning to comms at Camp David and in Season 2 by locating Peter when the government cannot. Though these talents are useful, she does lack Peter’s training and combat skills, yet occasionally, she is even helpful in a fight.

Rose is also much better at handling people than Peter. It is Rose who connects with Noor (Arienne Mandi) and gains her trust, which Peter desperately needs. Also, Rose keeps a tentative trust between him and his handler, Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren). Rose and Peter have different skill sets, but each is important, making them a good team. Without her, Peter could never have accomplished his missions, and with some training, Rose could do even better. If Rose joined this top-secret group, she and Peter would make a nearly unstoppable team.

Rose Becoming an Agent Could Be Good for Her

Though it would mark a major shift for the character, becoming a Night Agent would be good for Rose. Not only would it be a connection to her aunt and uncle, who she loved so much, but it might help her mental state. Season 2 shows that since being thrust into this world, she has suffered from nightmares, and while that may seem like a reason not to get involved again, being around Night Agents could help her. Unable to be honest about what happened with anyone, including her therapist, cannot be good for her healing. In a twisted way, only Peter and others who have lived through such terrifying experiences can understand her pain, which is not something she will find while she works at AdVerse. Rose says several times that she is safer with Peter than apart from him, which always proves true. Becoming an agent would allow the pair to be together, giving her a sense of safety she desperately needs.

Making Rose an Agent Would Explain her Involvement

If The Night Agent wants to keep bringing this character back, making Rose an agent herself is the best way forward. Her presence in Season 1 makes sense, but Season 2 tests the realm of improbability with what she is allowed to know. If she continues to get involved in Peter’s work after he asks her to stay away for her own safety, the story will get repetitive. Making Rose a Night Agent would remedy that and could provide a solution to another problem as well. Season 2 makes a point that it isn’t safe for Night Agents to have relationships. Yet, as seen with Rose’s aunt and uncle, it is possible for two Night Agents to have a lasting relationship as they understand the pressures of each other’s job and can protect themselves if brought into a dangerous situation. Peter and Rose care for each other, and if The Night Agent wants to continue developing this relationship, bringing Rose into the organization is the best solution.

In Season 2, several people mistake Rose for an agent, and at this point, she should be. Even Catherine, who is difficult to impress (and seemingly in charge of recruitment for Night Agents), admits that Rose is helpful. Already in possession of highly secret information and trusted to hear more as she spends time with Peter and Catherine, Rose hardly qualifies as a random citizen anymore. To keep her relevant, The Night Agent should commit to making Rose a part of this world by giving her the titular job in Season 3.
