Michael C. Hall teases Dexter’s return in new video: Although the show ended with what appeared to be his death, the opening of Original Sin revealed that…

Dexter: Resurrection has begun filming. Michael C. Hall originated the title role – a moral serial killer who hunts down criminals who have escaped justice – in Showtime’s Dexter, which ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2013. He later reprised the role in the sequel series New Blood and as the narrator of the prequel show Original Sin, starring Patrick Gibson. The upcoming Dexter: Resurrection is set to follow the character’s post-New Blood story. Although the show ended with what appeared to be his death, the prologue to Original Sin revealed that he had survived.

On the official Dexter X account, they shared a video message from Michael C. Hall announcing that Friday, January 17 was the official first day of production on Dexter: Resurrection. It is somewhat unclear if the room behind him, which looks similar to a hospital lobby or a police station, is part of the set of the show or merely a production office. The star said that “I’m looking forward to taking another thrill ride” and teased that viewers should “stay tuned.” See the original post below:

What This Means For Dexter: Resurrection

The Show Contains Many Mysteries

This new video does not reveal any details about the storyline of the upcoming series. Because New Blood took the character to the fictional town of Iron Lake, New York, far away from the Miami setting of the original Dexter show, Resurrection could follow suit and bring him to another entirely new location. However, it seems that he will be returning to at least one familiar haunt, as multiple characters from the original series are returning, including Angel Batista (David Zayas), Dexter’s dad Harry (James Remar), and Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott).

In Dexter: Original Sin, the young Harry Morgan is played by Christian Slater.

If the set shown in the video is indeed a hospital, it seems likely that the series will at the very least be beginning in New York State, as Dexter: Original Sin episode 1 showed the character’s life flashing before his eyes as he was being rushed to the hospital. Regardless of any clues offered by the video, the confirmation that production is now beginning shows that the series is on track for its planned Summer release, following the season 1 finale of Original Sin, which is due on Paramount+ on February 14.

Our Take On The Dexter: Resurrection Tease

The Show Needs To Play Its Cards Carefully

Ultimately, viewers’ reactions to Dexter: Resurrection‘s marketing campaign and premiere could make or break the franchise. The initial response in the video’s comments seems to be overwhelmingly positive, but the excitement over Hall’s return could diminish interest in Original Sin, in which he only plays Dexter in voiceover. If that show fails to get off the ground, it could preemtively scupper a variety of other spinoff shows that are in development, so the timing and execution of the 2025 series will need to be perfect in order to avoid bringing the overall universe to a halt once again.

Dexter: Resurrection premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime in Summer 2025.
