Fans have been going ham with their theories online which has only spiralled into more speculations about what’s to come as days go by. While show creator Dan Erickson has proclaimed that none of them have come even close, some of them are too hard to ignore.
For example, a recent theory about how Gemma became severed has caught fire ever since a Reddit user published it on the r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus forum. According to many fans of the show, the points made in it seem too coincidental to ignore as conjecture anymore.
Severance Season 2 dives into the nitty gritty conspiracies surrounding the Lumon employees
Severance made its mark known among thriller fans with its arrival in February 2022. The first season hooked people to the storyline of Mark S (Adam Scott) and his team-leading double lives as completely different people due to the severance procedure.
The intense cliffhanger, though, made them wait for Season 2 with bated breath. After three long years, their anticipation has come to fruition with the series finally resuming its journey on January 17th.

More importantly, if reviews are anything to go by, the wait has been worth it. With the series, though, another thing has returned full-fledgedly on the discussion forums across the world. That is, of course, the wild fan theories about it. As the show picks up its speed, fans become even more desperate to crack the code into what is actually going on in the satirical thriller.
In fact, the theories have become so widespread that even the show creator Dan Erickson commented on it in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Although he claimed that he hasn’t seen any theory yet to pause and nod his head, he loves that fans are taking such interest in it.
We are trying to lay down the seeds of where it’s ultimately going, and I do think that people notice that… But I don’t think that I’ve seen anything where I’m like, ‘Oh God, they got it. Time to leave the country and change my name.’
However, one particular theory has caught the eyes of many fans. According to them, this might be the one theory that actually gets unraveled as the show progresses when more episodes arrive.
One interesting Severance Season 2 theory is riling up the internet
As stated before, ever since the first episode of Severance Season 2’s arrival, the r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus forum has become a hotspot for fans to trade and analyze their theories about the show. Among them, user Old-Reputation-8987 put forth a hypothesis that seems to be checking all the boxes Severance has been trying to imply for so long.

According to the user, Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman), the wellness counselor at Lumon Industries, was severed against her wishes. There are a few points that indicate this possibility. According to the user, a major one among them is that nobody knows where Gemma Scout/Ms Casey’s Outie is living.
Even more fascinating is the fact that the severed employee list of Irving’s Outie(John Turturro) contained the name of a man called Doug Coleman. Coleman was caught in a car crash in 2007, which led to a fractured left arm on his part. As per Irving’s notes, the man sued the city following the incident.
The user further explained, “Irving has his own handwritten note that reads ‘Did the settlement lead to severance?’”. To them, the incident feels very similar to what happened in Gemma’s case. As a result, they can’t help but wonder if there is any direct connection between car crash victims and severance, “or maybe they are better at being severed”.
Although many agreed with the user’s theory, it is hard to say anything at the moment. However, there surely seems to be a connection between them. It’ll be interesting to find out if the theory is anywhere close to the truth as more episodes of Severance come out every Friday on the Apple TV+ app.
