he Day of the Jackal, starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, is an adaptation of the 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth, only with a *very* different ending. After 10 episodes of high tension, the season 1 story of cat and mouse finally came to an end. But it’s not over for good, because a season 2 of The Day of the Jackal has already been confirmed! Here’s everything we know about the future episodes.
When was The Day of the Jackal season 2 confirmed?
On the November 22, 2024—before season 1 had even come to an end—The Hollywood Reporter revealed season 2 had been commissioned, with the show’s executive producer Gareth Neame explaining this was part of the reason they made changes to the novel’s original ending and kept certain characters alive.
“Of course, we’re in the business of series television, and there was the idea of sustainability for a returning series,” he explained.

Who will be cast in The Day of the Jackal season 2?
We know The Day of the Jackal can’t exist without, well, the Jackal, so we expect Eddie Redmayne to be back, and it’s likely Zina Jansone (Eleanor Matsuura) will be back with a new job for him. Other characters that could return based on season 1’s ending include:
Úrsula Corberó as Nuria
Chukwudi Iwuji as Osita Halcrow
Charles Dance as Timothy Winthorp
Lia Williams as Isabel Kirby
Sule Rimi as Paul Pullman
Florisa Kamara as Jasmine Pullman
When will The Day of the Jackal season 2 be released?
So far, nothing has been said publicly about a potential release date for a season 2 . Filming for the first season took roughly seven months plus another 12 months in post-production before it came out in fall 2024. Following that pattern, it’s likely fans can expect the show to come out in ~2026, providing there are no scheduling conflicts for the actors and crew involved.

What could happen in The Day of the Jackal season 2?
Executive producer Neame has dropped major hints about what season 2 could involve: Namely, Charles trying to find his wife and child, who have walked out on him after finding out the truth about his career. “There’s some serious bit of unfinished business,” he explained to THR, while executive producer Nigel Marchant added, “We actually know what his priority is, in terms of what his next mission will be. He’s trying to find [his family]. Whether he does or not, let’s see.”
Sounds ominous!
Remind me, what happened at the end of The Day of the Jackal season 1? Spoil it for me!
The Day of the Jackal came to an end on December 12, 2024 in a tense shootout at Charles’s home in Cadiz, Spain. When he returned home from assassinating UDC, he discovered Nuria and his son were gone and was instead met by Bianca and Vince, who were on a mission to kill him.
Instead, he managed to outsmart them and shot them both in his house after they had inadvertently shot his brother-in-law. The next scene then led us to believe Charles/The Jackal was dead when he was involved in a car crash…only he reappeared for a meeting with businesswoman Zina Jansone (Eleanor Matsuura), who told him she had a new job for him.
