Where To Sell Stolen Items In Oblivion Remastered

Oblivion Remaster characters with stolen items

Contrary to the popular saying, crime does pay in Oblivion Remastered, as long as you know how to offload your stolen goods. Stealing items in Oblivion Remastered is relatively simple. All you need to do is make sure you aren’t seen, and then pick up whatever you want. However, while you’re able to use stolen items without issue, you will have some trouble if you’re planning on selling them. Most merchants in the game won’t buy stolen goods, so your inventory may get loaded up with worthless loot if you don’t know who to bring it to.

Another thing to consider before you start your life of crime is your current affiliations. Some of the guilds you can join in Oblivion Remastered have strict rules against stealing from other members. If you don’t want to get suspended or kicked out, you’ll have to be a bit more discerning when taking advantage of the five-finger discount. Once you have your stolen items, you’ll need to bring them to one of the game’s fences, who are the only NPCs willing to buy stolen goods in the game.

How To Sell Stolen Items To Fences

There are eleven fences in Oblivion Remastered who are willing to buy your stolen goods. Most of them require some sort of prerequisite, like joining the right guild or upgrading the Dunbarrow Cove pirate hideout. However, there is one fence available to all players, Manheim Maulhand at the Inn of Ill Omen. The Inn is on the Green Road between the Imperial City and Bravil, so it shouldn’t be hard to find. While this is the easiest place to sell stolen goods, I might recommend doing it through the Thieves Guild instead.

Unlike most guilds, where you typically advance just by completing quests, the Thieves Guild also requires you to sell a certain amount of stolen items to their approved fences before you can be promoted. Selling to other fences therefore hurts your progress towards this goal. You can check out our guide on how to join the Thieves Guild if you have some stolen goods burning a hole in your pocket and need to expedite the process. While joining, I would also recommend buying as many lockpicks as you can from Armand, as he doesn’t offer this deal after you join.

Selling goods to a fence works the same way as selling non-stolen items to any merchant. You’ll see your stolen goods marked with a little hand icon while selling, so you know which ones you need to unload to avoid facing consequences. One interesting thing to note is that if you sell a stolen item to a fence and then buy it back, it will no longer be considered stolen. This is a good way to keep certain stolen items without worrying about losing them if you get arrested.

There Are 11 Fences In Oblivion Remastered

In total, there are 11 fences in Oblivion Remastered. Five of these you can access through the Thieves Guild, though you will need to advance in rank there to use more than the first one. The Dark Brotherhood faction also has their own fence, and there is no rank requirement for selling to them once you join. Aside from Manheim Maulhand, the rest of the fences are available as upgrades to the Dunburrow Cove hideout. A full list of fences, their locations, and requirements to sell to them can be seen below:

While you only need access to one fence to start selling your stolen goods, not all fences in Oblivion Remastered buy all types of items. For example, both Ongar the World-Weary and Manheim Haulhand only buy items from the Alchemy tab. If you want to sell different types of stolen items, you’ll need to unlock some of the better fences. Some also have higher maximum coin payouts for single items.
