Eminem’s net worth in 2025 is higher than it would’ve been if he didn’t get sober.
“I save a lot of money by not buying drugs anymore,” Eminem, with his signature candor, told The New York Times in 2010.
The “Without Me” rapper has been in recovery since 2008 following an overdose the year prior from abusing prescription drugs.

“[I was using] Vicodin, Valium and Ambien, and toward the end, which caused my overdose, methadone,” he said. “I didn’t know it was methadone. I used to get pills wherever I could. I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”
Now 16 years clean and releasing new music, Em hasn’t shied away from controversy: His June 2024 single “Houdini” references everything from the trans community to Tory Lanez‘s shooting of Megan Thee Stallion—and flat out says, “My profit is skyrocketing.”
How did Eminem become famous?
For most of the world, it seemed like Eminem became famous overnight, but he worked diligently for decades before breaking through to mainstream success.
Born Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St. Joseph, Mo., on Oct. 19, 1972, Eminem had music in his blood: His parents were in a band before his father left when Eminem was a toddler. He was raised by his mother, Debbie, and moved several times before they settled in the Detroit suburb of Warren, Michigan. They struggled financially throughout Eminem’s childhood and adolescence.
As a child, Eminem wanted to be a comic book artist until his mother’s half-brother Ronnie Polkingham introduced him to hip-hop with a gift of the Breakin’ soundtrack. Polkingham later died by suicide, devastating Eminem but also strengthening his resolve to become a rapper.
Eminem began rapping in underground mic battles when he was 14, and while he worked on his rap skills, his school work suffered: He was left back three times in ninth grade and dropped out of high school when he was 17 to focus on hip-hop full time while working odd jobs to make ends meet.
He released his first album with the group Soul Intent (formerly New Jacks) in 1995, then formed the group Dirty Dozen (D12) a year later, adding rapper Proof to the roster. Eminem released his first solo album under Web Entertainment in 1996.
Eminem’s alter-ego, Slim Shady, made his public debut in 1997 when he first recorded The Slim Shady EP. He performed in the 1997 Rap Olympics (yes, it’s real), coming in second place and catching the attention of an Interscope Records intern. The intern gave Jimmy Iovine a copy of the Slim Shady EP, who then passed it on to Dr. Dre.
Dre signed Eminem to his label, Aftermath Records, and produced his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP, released in 1999. Propelled by the lead single “My Name Is,” the album introduced Em and Slim to the world—and sold more than 10 million copies. To date, he’s sold more than 220 million albums worldwide.
Eminem’s net worth in 2025 is reportedly a cool $250 million.
Despite boasting a steady stream of both commercial success (he’s largely credited with popularizing hip-hop in white Middle America) and critical and peer acclaim, Eminem isn’t flashy with his cash. He’s admitted to preferring to hold on to as much of it as he could, likely stemming at least somewhat from being raised in poverty. He explained to The New York Times in 2010, “I invest. I always try to be smart. I try to treat all the money I’m making like it’s the last time I’m going to make it.”
Eminem says he does “not particularly” like spending money. He once purchased a Rolex when he first became famous, but he told Anderson Cooper he never wears it because he’s scared of scratching it—and that he called his manager before buying it to make sure he could actually afford it.
He’s also clever (and serious) when it comes to his trademarks.
How much has Eminem made from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)?
Eminem’s 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), moved 281,000 album-equivalent units in its first week in July 2024, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and knocking Taylor Swift‘s The Tortured Poets Department off the top spot. This marked the rapper’s 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, tying with Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and Ye (Kanye West) for the fifth most No. 1s on the chart. As Death of Slim Shady continues to sell, it’s safe to say Slim is raking in cash with another phenomenal record.
How much does Eminem make a year?
Em’s annual income varies depending on whether or not he tours or releases new music, but estimates place it at around $20 million. Sounds like those smart investments are paying off in spades.
How much does Eminem charge for a feature?
Surprise! Eminem doesn’t charge for features at all. Rapper Tech N9ne revealed that Eminem is very picky about his features, but that if he does agree to do one, he’ll do it for free in exchange for the artist to feature on one of his tracks in the future.
“[Eminem] did the verse for nothing but a swap,” he said. “I was flabbergasted cause I know it costs so much to get Eminem, and he’s worth every penny. For him to say, ‘I just want a song from you for this,’ that made me feel really beautiful that he felt like that about my music.”
That said, there aren’t many artists Eminem respects enough to work with at all, so don’t expect him to guest on your SoundCloud unless you’re a Rap God yourself.
