Fallout making major return this year, says insider

Bethesda’s Fallout series could be making a surprise return on a platform we did not expect, according to an industry insider.

The Fallout series is not just one of the most popular RPG properties in the ever-expanding library of Bethesda titles but it’s also one of the most beloved by millions of fans worldwide.

Released in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Fallout 4 is one of the most popular entries in the series and 2024, it benefited from its long-awaited free new-gen update. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting news on Fallout 5 but before that game arrives, it looks like Fallout 4 has a bit more nuclear fuel in its tank.

Following months of rumours, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2 which features a subtle but much-needed re-design of its predecessor and of course, will promise to deliver games with improved visuals and performance.

The original Nintendo Switch is no stranger to Bethesda RPGs benefitting with the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 2017. However, for years Bethesda fans have been wondering why Fallout 4 was never ported to the hybrid console.

I’m sure the Nintendo Switch was capable of handling Fallout 4, after all, not only did it handle Skyrim with a reasonable amount of success, but to the surprise of many, was able to deliver The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, arguably a more demanding RPG than Skyrim.

While it doesn’t look like we’ll ever get Fallout 4 on the Nintendo Switch, according to a report from Insider Gamings Tom Henderson (via the YouTube channel eXtas1s), Fallout 4 could be headed to the new console along with Starfield this year.

Of course, we should take these rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise but should the Nintendo Switch 2 prove to be a capable console, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that it would be able to handle demanding RPGs such as Fallout 4 and Starfield.

That being said, if Fallout 4 and Starfield are ported to the Nintendo Switch 2, we’ll have our fingers crossed that the infamous Bethesda launch bugs will be kept to a minimum.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more such as the Nintendo Switch 2 release date, pricing and titles during the upcoming Direct event on 2 April 2025.
